I have a friend who is 20 and schizoaffective. She cannot hold down a job and is kicked out of every home she tries to live in. She earns money from the government, but she is currently living in a tent on the railroad tracks. I feel so bad for her and I want to help.

I don't know what's best for her, but I'm trying to find a place where she can stay permanently, and hopefully get treatment as well. Maybe shelters can help her, but she can't really live in a shelter. I don't think she can afford a group home on welfare checks.

I just sent an email to Social Advocates for Youth and hopefully they can help.

Where can she go? I don't want her to live on the streets but she can't live with me and she can't afford any special homes. =[

It would depend on where abouts you live on what would be available in your area. Is she seeing anyone about her mental illness? Therapists I assume would have information on local housing options. Also any local charities would be a good place to start. They don't all provide accomodation options but may know of others who do and may be able to point you in the right direction.

Also, it might be worth doing a google search to see if your area has any local mental health services. They would also be a good starting point, especially if she may have special needs or be unable to live alone.
