What does one do when they find an avatar offensive or frightening. I realize a moderator can be notified, however if it is just a personal feeling that no-one else shares then what would the point be?

There is of course, also the problem of offending the person/s who have chosen their avatar/s as the issue is not with the person at all.

If it's an avatar, you would have to not see ANY avatars to make it invisible. If it's a siggy, then ignoring that person will make it invisible.

I think discussing it with a mod or admin is the best idea. There have been a few that were too violent for here, and one or two that were offensive to the whole membership also... to disagree is one thing.. these were the other thing.

Yep, discuss it with a mod.

I doubt I could be included in there so it may be some of the members didn't like them

Hi Sabrina,

Please do pm one of us if you are upset. We'll see if anything needs to be done or if you need to use your ignore options.

Please don't hesitate to talk to a mod if you need one.

Cheers!

January

Thank you. I read that thread with interest as after posting this and signing out I started thinking that it would be great if there was a little button next to each person's avatar that we could just click to turn it off. Instead of having turn everyone's off.

Hi Sabrina0805

I actually had a problem with someone that didn't like my siggy. Of course this person told me about it(it was only my name 'Brian') but I respected this and got rid of it. I wonder if you were to just ask the person about it if they wouldn't offer the same respect. Just my thoughts.

One thing that helps me is like today when I came on line there was an avitar that triggered me so I wrote the persons name down then when I clik on the message board name I read down the list of topics in that board. The next collumn is who the original poster who started the thread. Before I opened a thread I made sure the poster was not that person with the avitar I was sensitive to today. then only after I knew that poster wasn't that person did I open the thread. I know that does not prevent my seeing it as a part of the threads the person didn't start but was replying to but it was a start and a way to take care of myself.

heres soemthing you can do if you have firefox. When it comes to the avatar, right click and choose "block images from "insert webside image is from here" and you can block where its coming from.

I have to say that in the past I have had avatars that have either offended or upset people here and those people came to me directly with their concern and I have nothing but respect to those individuals.

I tend to put a funny avatar, like my moonie guy I have now. I have it because he makes me laugh. But in the past I have removed avatars that have made others uncomfortable because I do not want to upset someone needlessly.

Thats just my two cents.

Rainbowzz, that's interesting.. I don't use firefox here as I used to have trouble with chat with it (I think, if I recall... anyway Offensive / frightening avatarsff_topic: )

many of the avatars new members used to use were onsite offerings...and, if I'm not mistaken, if you load one into the gallery and link from there, it would also have pc as host... would your suggestion block all from pc then???

My best advice is to talk to the person that has the avatar and ask them to replace it with something else. If they're a jerk they either won't replace it or will replace it with something worse. But I think if the person is understanding enough, they would gladly replace it with something that wasn't so triggering for someone.

I had someone approach me on a site and they said although my avatar showed lots of emotion it was triggering to them. I didn't want to trigger anyone so I changed it immediately...I didn't wait a day or an hour or whatever...I changed it asap.

Don't be afraid to approach anyone if anything they use as an avatar or some other kind of graphic is offensive to you.

If a person is now ignored, you should no longer see their avatar either. Sorry for the delay in adding this feature.

I do not wish to ignore the poster. I just wish I did not have to see the avatar.

No problem! Thanks anyway. I did PM you and a moderator with regard to the avatar in question so I am sure that if it were deemed offensive, action would have been taken.
