I saw this on somebody's profile on another website and I thought you may appreciate it as I did....
B!TCHOLOGY?!? When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a b!tch. When I stand up for those I love, they call me a b!tch. When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my own way, they call me a b!tch. Being a b!tch means I won`t compromise what`s in my heart. It means I live my life MY way. It means I won`t allow anyone to step on me. When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak against it, I am defined as a b!tch. The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone`s maid, or when I act a little SELFish. It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won`t become anyone else`s idea of what they think I "should" be. I am outspoken, opininated and determined. I want what I want and is nothing wrong with that! So try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me. You won`t succeed. And if that makes me a b!tch, so be it. I embrace the title and am proud to bear it. <~~ Author Unknown |

While the sentiment is probably pretty correct, I believe it is the WAY someone stands up for another, addresses opponents and views and respects others that makes the difference whether one is called such a name, or merely respected for having guidelines and opinions by which they live.

Know the feeling. When I went public about $exual abuse I was known as a ****** because I exposed abuse and helped others to stop their abuse and or get out of their abusive situations.
Now that I know what DID is and how to heal from it I am once again in real life and online expoing something controverial - what DID really is not based on mass media and society misconceptions but based on the diagnostic criteria and the behind the scenes professional information. My doing this pi$$es people off. I have gotten banned by many non professionally run sites because I was not conforming to the mass media and society portrayals of this disorder. Professionally run sites are a little bit different. Though my posting my information and experiences pi$$ some people off as long as I am posting the varifyable professional truth when discussing what DID is I can be myself and not get banned because I am not conforming to the mass media portrayals and society views of DID. |

What would be the male equivalent for the word, "*****"?

Why do you wish to have such a title, any of you? Why can't the ones who are not understanding be the ones with such labels if they are not caring to bother? grrrrr

By wearing the title proudly, you take away the others' power. I have proudly called myself a b!tch for years!

Sky I don't mind the title though in mainstream society it has such a negative connatation... too bad.. I guess we need a word that actually states this without the negativity.... *****+?

yes, it is negative. What is good is being assertive, not -that- ?

The word "*****" is very ugly....... I have to agree..... I can say I've worked for women who are secure with who they are and are assertaive and a dream to work for.. And I have worked for insecure, "*****es" who were a nightmare to work for..... So not only being assertive, it is also important to be secure in who you are....... I never thought of the strong, sercure women who knew who they are and what they were doing ever once as a *****.. but you also knew they wanted the job done right and you did it right...... the other type no matter what you did never pleased them... they always complained and *****ed... lol

Isn't that the difference between being aggressive and being assertive? (The self confidence factor?)

Some people think assertive women are b****es. What you consider assertive and aggressive may differ from others. Women aren't the only ones to take a negative word and give it a positive spin, nor the first. Gay people have taken the word "queer" and made it theirs. Whether you agree with it or not, the point is, people are feeling positive and taking back their power.
I like the word b!tch as a positive word. It's strong. If someone's going to call you a b!tch because they consider it negative, but you consider those traits positive, then wear the name proudly. I have friends who proudly wear the title "slut." I have problems with the word "slut," but I'm considering my friends' point of view. Since I consider animals above humans, being called a "female dog" is really a compliment! ![]()

hmmmmmm actually, assertive and self confident go more in a positive way... assertive being confident and self confident being self explaining...... whereas aggression is combative... my thinking cap may have blown out the window , so I will have to think on this more tomorrow....... lol

Yes, but my point is, some people consider assertive actions aggressive, even if they're not, by definition. Some people get defensive when you stand up for yourself, and label you negatively.

ah that in itself IS the point: when you are assertive you are not being aggressive. It's very nature is what defines it as assertive or aggressive behavior.
You can stand up for yourself in an assertive manner and noone takes offense personally...it's when it's done aggressively that causes others to react, imo.

Wrong. Just because people are offended, doesn't mean you're being aggressive. Some people don't like it when others stand up to them, especially if they previously caved in to the other's demands, and then they might label the person a B. You don't have to be a B to be called a B. Same thing with "slut."

Maven, I have to admit that you've made a very compelling argument. I had a different position on this when I first started reading this thread, but after reading what you wrote, I have actually come around to see your point of view. That doesn't happen often to a girl who thinks she's always right
