Which at this time, I happen to be one of them. My insurance kicks in on April 7th however.
Anyway, I was reading an article on CNN today about the charity/discounts that are given to those individuals who do not have healthcare. I was diturbed by what I read. I work in the healthcare field and our facility does well over 3 million a year in charity for those individuals who can afford to pay for services. In the last 10 years the amount of discounts given to those without healthcare has dropped. It states the reason for this drop is because the insurance companies negotiate with the Dr's for lower reimbursment levels, thus Dr's are making less money and can not afford to give discounts to those without Health Insurance. It also states that the malpractice insurance premiums are on the rise, the highest ever, and that because of this the DR's are reluctant to grant discounts. I guess at every corner, there are reasons why these discounts are not granted and I suppose I can understand both side but I think it is unacceptable for any individual to be without healthcare. I sit and think of what can be done to help the situation but I truely do not know. It seems that no matter what avenue is investigated the bottom line comes back to US. The ones with NO HEALTHCARE. Billions of dollars are being made each year from the drug companies and yet still we have problems like this. On an unrelated topic, yet equally disturning, I was watching the News the other day and they have finally come up with the funding for a Baseball Stadium the the great Nations Capital (yeah right). I happen to live just outside of DC and I know first hand that we have an overwelming population of homeless people. Yet the city raised 611,000,000.00 to build a baseball staduim. Does this make sense to you? How can we find baseball more worthy or funding then the homeless men, women and children. This is a total outrage. It sickens me. I am disgusted by it all. Thanks for letting me rant....again |

Me too. No health care and over the pharmaceudical company's poverty level. So we conjure up the meds right?
We all know that Baseball is more important then people. The game shall be played for eternity and us lowly folks without insurance will be gone in the blink of an eye. We are but a blight on the earth anyway. Dark today huh? Sorry bout that. |

hey, i'm without insurance..so i know what goes on. i know a woman who makes $75,000 a year, passing out samples to doctors. seems a little weird, huh? those drug companies are raking it in. they certainly could lower their prices and help the uninsured. i AM one of the lucky ones who gets my psych meds free. but i know so many that don't get anything.
heck, we have tons of homeless people here and we're getting an ice skating rink. i guess homeless people like to ice skate alot. the city came up with enough money for that. but one of our shelters had to close because the city quit helping fund them. i'd like to kick some councilmembers -----! and have you read about all the money that both republicans and democrats took from Abramhoff? we have no moral center anymore in Washington. on either side. it's gimme, gimme, gimme. i heard the other day how many pay raises that they have voted themselves in the last few years and it is absolutely ridiculous. enough.......i feel better. xoxox pat |

The coroner here is investigating a case of a woman whose treatment of a post-natal complication was delayed because she didn't have health insurance. (They were going to transfer her to a private hospital for surgery but then had to change the paperwork and send her to a public hospital).
She died. ![]() imo health care is a right, not a privilege. |

Heartspace,
That is a terrible realtiy of the uninsured. Very sad. Sometimes I am in total disbelief. Thank WW and Pat. I have been without health insurance for roughly 7-8 months now. The reality is, that no one cares. No one wants to step in and take a stand on this issue. Again, this is truely sad....indeed. |
