Sometimes I get so ticked off at the ER doctors I could just spit nickels! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
My daughter, after encouragement from me, brought her boyfriend to the ER last night for some really severe symptoms from taking Seroquel. Now, I know the drug has helped many, please don't think I am railing against the drug. That is not the case. His symptoms were the following: 1. Inability to urinate 2. Unable to stay awake 3. Daughter found him in fetal position the previous morning and he ended up being completely stiff with horrible back pain to the point of being unable to straighten up. 4. Profuse sweating 5. Confusion/rambling/talking nonsense 6. Not understanding questions/answering inappropriately 7. Uneven breathing/rapid heartbeat 8. Unbalanced gait After looking up the possible side effects of Seroquel, I called my daughter and told her she needed to get him to the ER pronto. I feared he had a seizure in his sleep, and that's why he was in the clenched fetal position and unable to straighten up from the muscle contractions. Now, to get to the GRRRRRRRRR part - The docs at the ER in their infinite wisdom claimed he was OVER medicated (he was NOT). Then claimed he was drunk (he was NOT and had no alcohol in weeks). They fought with my daughter for 5 hours over his condition. Even when his bloodwork came back that he had no drugs or alcohol in his system, they still fought with her. She called me about every 1/2 hour or so and she was so stressed. I told her to have them call me if they didn't believe her and I would set them straight and I would go there and make such a ruckass that they would rue the day they ever thought they could be so unfeeling and uncompassionate towards Gary and his condition. Luckily, it didn't come to that. Erin was able to let loose on one of the docs and they finally came back and agreed that he was suffering from the Seroquel. They finally admitted him for the night for observation. Today, another doctor saw him and said she felt he did indeed have a grand mal seizure as she found bite marks on his tongue and cheek along with the muscle contractions. She is setting him up with a neurologist for an EEG and to see his regular doc for physical therapy and or meds to help him relax his muscles. Why does it have to be such a battle to get these so called educated medical personel to open their freakin eyes and SEE what is going on???? They are so quick to assume that someone is there for drugs, or because they are drunk? They pulled the same crap with my exhusband a couple of weeks ago over his severe back pain and it ended up he had a compression fracture in his back. He's been hospitalized for over a month now....this after sending him home with ibuprofen and telling him it was all muscular. Good lord....help them smarten up please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There, rant done. Thanks for listening. Hope I didn't bore you all. *sigh* |

Boy it does make you wonder. It's so hard these days. I know I was told once that they couldn't tell in the xray if my knee was broken because my knees were "thick" (I'm overweight). I said " you mean you can't see an xray of my bones because I'm fat?" and she said yes. Long story short - got to an orthopod. two weeks later and he popped the xray up. I asked what the line was running down the middle of my knee (that I could see from 5 feet away), and he said "you've been walking on a broken bone".
Then, you get lucky and find a doctor that cares and is compassionate and is everything you would like to have. Unfortunately, it's hit or miss. I'm sorry he had such a bad experience. Tranquility

i know!!! I know what your going through!!!! And i am sooooooooo sorry that had to happen...i am very happy that they decided to wake up and smell their own crap and realize what they were to imcompentent to see....even though...we have no medical experience whatsoever and see exactly whats going on...just because they have a degree that their million dollars paid for doesnt mean they dont need to work...and do a good job!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR for you and your daughter and her boyfriend...in fact give me the hospitals address and the doctors involved and i will kick some butt myself....well..ill get my bf too since i am physically unable to due to the healthcare team calling me a hypochondriac and throwing me to the side because i dont have insurance.............or good insurance i should say.....im sorry im ranting for myself now..ill shut up...i really feel for you thats terrible..you know things like seizures are serious...VERY serious and THEIR uncapability could create worse and horrible consquences....for any poor soul in their care (Prays that never happens) hugs to you and your family love, inny

So sorry that happened to you with your broken knee. It's just unfathomable to me that the obvious is so damned unobvious to some docs. And they get paid the big bucks to misdiagnose us???? *sigh* Thanks for your post..... ![]() Hugsssssss J |

(((((((((((((inny)))))))))))))) Thanks love for your support. Rant all you want....it's good for the soul to get it out
![]() That's exactly what I was doing because I was so p.oed about it all. I guess what it comes down to is that people are sometimes oblivious to the obvious. And, that they project onto the patient what they "feel" is the problem instead of investigating it to the fullest before making their judegements. DOH!!!! Love & Hugs to you inny! J |
