i have no basement. i guess we'd all get in the bathroom in this house. three dogs and four cats and their mother.........then i'd try to pull a mattress in and cover us with it. actually, i'm thinking that it could be sorta comical...if it wasn't such a possibility.............i've been in three and they are absolutely terrifying. i was in one on I-40 and it blew an RV into me.........and then i got squashed up against a semi-trailer truck. and then it hit a feedlot. horrid, horrid, horrid.

Yes, that is! Oh you've already filled the odds of being hit! Would you believe I became a spotter for NWS because I'd rather go out into the storm and look for them to see them before they got to me?? My car was so dented from the hail..but I think I've told this before...

guess you'll have fewer of them in Texas???

We usually see several tornados close to me every season. I've spent many a night/day running to in-laws and their basement!

Gathering my cats up? whew! Once, God love them, I had to put my big boy (cleo) in a pillow case (all but head) to keep him from tearing me up on the car ride. It was traumatic for him to ride in the car, but going through a tornado might've been moreso. anyone else live in tornado alley or just plain old tornado country? I only have two pet carriers, but had no time to get them and had 3 cats and a dog. If I would've had time, my big boy would've gone in the carrier before anyone else. anyone else live in tornado alley or just plain old tornado country? I've not had any of my cats declawed (personal decision).

I so appreciate the technology now...they show every circulation in the atmosphere and break in and keep us posted.

I'm in Southwest MO and we get lots of warnings and sirens. In my town they run the sirens about 12 times a night when there is a threat. We live 2 houses from the siren! It's pretty bad. The cat and I are crazy by the time it's all over with.

Wednesday night we were really threatened by one very close by.

I've already had my fill of them this year. Live close to where the one hit in Tenn. a few weeks ago. ( about 20 miles away if that far) I'm ready for fall already.

texas gets a lot of them, sky........... anyone else live in tornado alley or just plain old tornado country? i'm just praying that the big and old house next door has a basement and that the neighbors will share it with me. my landlord owns it also.

ozzie, our town used to turn the sirens on constantly..even when there was nothing around us. just dark clouds....finally enough people complained that they only do it now when we have real clouds that the tornadoes form in. thank goodness!!! i'm so sorry that you live so close to your siren. i can imagine how nerve wracking that would be for you and your cat. i have one cat who really is interested in the helicopter noise and one dog who freaks during thunderstorms. i always try to plan ahead and put him in the house, in a crate, if i think one is headed towards us.

i have the weather service internet e.mail notification....three times a day now......i can click on the radar and see where every little thing is happening. i'm feeling more secure now. our local television weather woman gets things war wrong frequently.

One Saturday, after a week of several tornado warning sirens, the siren goes off and I promptly yell "BASEMENT!"

The kids pointed out that the sun was shining and it was noon. The use the same siren for the Saturday noon whistle as they use for tornadoes.

we get alot of tornadoes too but we don't have the sirens around here. if our satilite goes out with the bad weather I am screwed lol. I use to live in Kansas though and the radio had a beep on it in bad weather. we have had quite a few already this year hit around us.

We had one hit last month. Nearly wiped out about half of the new subdivisions. Go figure all the big expensive houses are now rubble. I hate storms and freak out. The siren is on the other end of the parking lot of my apartment complex. I get real paranoid when I see that we are under a watch so I have to turn off the T.V.

There are no basements where I live since it is too close too the coast. But when I moved too San Antonio from MN I thought it was so strange no one had basements! There were some good storms last night in SA and we finally got some rain!!!!! Suppose to storm out again tonight. Where I live, we are literally praying for rain in church each Sunday. With the rain we got last night and the parched ground we have some pretty big puddles around. Feast or famine!

Pat, our clouds are starting to roll in a bit here but we just don't get the storms you do up north. Something tells me we will get our share during hurricane season.

Just wanted to pipe in and say we actually HAD a tornado here last night!! Luckily no one was hurt. There are lots and lots of beautiful trees down, but all of ours are OK.

22,000 of us are without electricity and it looks like it will take a couple of days to get it fixed.

Fun!
