I was just reading in the paper that Mother's day started in 1870 with the woman who wrote the lyrics to Battle Hymn of The Republic as a time for mothers to come together and work for peace so our son's and "men" would not be sent off to fight wars when we could work toward peace and the betterment of human-kind. I loved it. So for several years women met on this special day for these reasons. Then, after the founder's death, around 1914 the president proclaimed the second sunday in May would be Mother's day. Hows that for trivia? That's how modern Hallmark came to be on this day.
