Who cares about the WHY! They're putting perverts away. In my book, more power to them, ratings or not. I don't care that Dateline is "invading their privacy" or that they are "entrapping" them. Children are safer now that so many perpetrators have been put away. YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!

Now if all the States would adopt Megan's and Jessica's Laws and ENFORCE stiffer penalities, that would be saying something! We'd put these people away for LIFE!

I wasn't saying anything negative about Dateline, as to why they do these shows. I agree--they should put these guys away. (And females that do it, too.)

Actually, all states have a form of Megan's Law. As far as child molesters and rapists go, I believe that there should be no Megan's Law and Jessica's Law; these perverts should never get out of jail.

That's what I'm saying--they shouldn't be allowed to get out. There should be no reason for Megan's Law because they shouldn't get out.

By the way, I saw this article in AOL News, in case anyone's interested:

States Get Tougher With Sex Offenders

I agree...no probation/parole for these guys...the chair or other form of punishment should replace that!

An internet sting has caught a local M.D... Valladares... in his last year of internship as a Miami PSYCHIATRIST... accused of soliciting a minor on the internet and of sending unwanted lewd/sexual video over the internet. Just think, soon this guy would have been out in the society in his own office, all on his own. (And NO ONE ever believes a psychiatrist's patient!!! right?))) Good thing they caught him!

Did anyone see this article on CNN?

Judge: Sex offender too short for prison

Prosecutor vows to appeal 10-year probationary sentence

Friday, May 26, 2006; Posted: 1:26 p.m. EDT (17:26 GMT)

LINCOLN, Nebraska (AP) -- A judge's decision to sentence a 5-foot-1 man to probation instead of prison for sexually assaulting a child has angered crime victim advocates who say the punishment sends the wrong message.

But supporters of short people say it's about time someone recognizes the unique challenges they face.

Cheyenne County District Judge Kristine Cecava issued the sentence Tuesday. She told Richard W. Thompson that his crimes deserved a long prison sentence but that he was too small to survive in a state prison.

Though he could have been sentenced to 10 years behind bars, he ended up with 10 years of probation instead. On Thursday, the state's attorney general, Jon Bruning, promised to appeal within two weeks, calling the sentence far too lenient.

"I'm concerned about the message this sends to victims and perpetrators," said Marla Sohl with the Nebraska Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Coalition, adding that it shows more concern is being placed on the criminal and his safety in prison than the victim.

But Joe Mangano, secretary of the National Organization of Short Statured Adults, agreed with the judge's assessment that Thompson would face dangers while in prison because of his height.

"I'm assuming a short inmate would have a much more difficult time than a large inmate," said Mangano, who is 5 feet 4 inches tall. "It's good to see somebody looking out for someone who is a short person."

Thompson, 50, had sexual contact over a couple of months last year with a 12-year-old girl, said Sidney Police Chief Larry Cox. He was sentenced on two felony sexual assault charges.

As part of the probation, he will be electronically monitored for the first four months and was told never to be alone with someone under age 18 or date or live with a woman whose children were under 18. He was also ordered to get rid of his pornography.

Thompson's attorney, Donald Miller, had no comment on the ruling. Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub, who prosecuted the case, did not return a call seeking comment. Cecava did not return a message seeking comment.

The judge's reasoning confounded Amy Miller, legal director for the Nebraska chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.

"I have never heard of anything like this before," she said.

No one has ever come to the ACLU to complain of height discrimination, she said. And using Thompson's height as a reason to avoid sending him to prison is surprising, because neither the U.S. nor state constitution provides protections based on physical stature, she said.

A spokesman for the prison system said Thompson's height would not put him at risk among the state's 4,400 inmates. There are protections available in prison to help inmates who feel threatened, prison spokesman Steve King said, but to his knowledge, no one has ever taken advantage of them based on fears related to their height.

"He's not the shortest guy we have in prison," King said. "We've got some short guys that are as tough as nails. We've got people from all ages, physical stature of all sizes, in general population."

State Sen. Ernie Chambers, a longtime critic of judges, said he was baffled by the sentence.

"If shortness is an excuse and protection from going to prison, short people ought to rob banks and do everything else they would wind up going to prison for," Chambers said. "We're talking here about a crime committed against a child, and shortness is not a defense."

I heard about that!!! Incredible!! That creep deserves whatever he gets in prison!! What the heck is wrong with these judges today???? I'm willing to bet that, God forbid, it happened to a child or a woman in their lives, that they would change their thinking real quick!! If not, I pity that child or woman! Maybe someone should violate the JUDGES!!

Who the hell cares if he would survive in prison! He should've thought of that before he messed with that little girl!

Did you hear about the new political party they're trying to start in Denmark? They're all pedophiles. It was on Yahoo News yesterday.

What the hell is the world coming to? Won't send him to prison because he is too short!! He should be banged up with the biggest toughest of prisoners - that way he might get an inkling of how he has affected the little ones he has hurt.

Incidentally, yes I saw that about the political party of pedos??

Its a bit like all the foreign prisoners here in england, some are guilty of rape and murder and drugs charges and upon their release from lock up they are given asylum here in the uk because if they get sent back to their host countries they face going to prison or various other things, the human rights people think this is unfair. What about the human rights of the people that these foreign prisoners violated and terrorised?? The world is losing its glory

It begins with the idea of total tolerance, and lack of morals, demanding each person choose their own limits...etc... I'm afraid. It has backlashes to this extent, where we go HOW ON EARTH? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? imo

I heard about the judge letting off the short rapist a couple days ago. If he can get out of going to jail because he's short, then anyone who isn't strong enough to defend himself in prison (since that's what the judge is claiming about the short guy) should walk. It's so ridiculous!

There was a story on last night's news about a cop (if I'm recalling right) who had fought to capture a guy who raped a boy (might have been his nephew), and now it turns out the cop had raped his own stepdaughter about four years ago. I tried to find the news story to link it here, but I couldn't remember which channel it was on.

I just figure the world's been going to hell for a long time now...makes me sad enough to want to hibernate in some secluded cave and only come out at night...might be safer that way.

Lexicon78, I once believed all was lost, too. But that doom and gloom perspective only looks at the negative things in this world (such as online predators). Is not that giving them (negative things) more importance than the better things in life?

I just remember all the excuses mad over Woody Allen when he seduced his girlfriend's child, but it was ok because it ws only his sorta stepdaughter.... Jerry Lee Lewis and his 13 year old 1st cousin.......

I had a choropracotor use me as a tool for masturbation while face down on his table when I was a sweet young thing... when I got homw all shaken up, my predatory pedophile father went to confront him, with the car with the pistol in tht glove box...... the creep denied.... all I could do was stop payment on my check, and reel in my head that my father the scum bag was defending my honor.....

Re: the probated short rapist: Like he only preyed on women his size or larger......tuff poopies to him. Lock him up with Bubba. Lock 'em all up with Bubba. I'll be glad to hold the key.
