Too good to pass up. He's my favorite, anyway.

"Most people are searching for happines. They're looking for it. They're trying to find it in someone or something outside of themselves. That's a fundemental mistake. Happiness is something that you are, and it comes from the way you think." - Wayne Dyer

I take it to mean that if you're constantly insisting on being a victim and not taking responsibility for your own actions, you won't be happy. Being happy is a CHOICE.

(Yeah yeah, I have chronic major depression and have since I was 13, OK? I'm 41. I don't need to know it's a biological illness, blah blah blah.)

BUT, in spite of the illness, you still have the POWER to CHOOSE how you look at things, to CHOOSE what direction you will go in. Material goods won't make you happy. Each individual person is responsible, ultimately, only for his or her own self -- other people can't and won't and shouldn't be responsible for making you happy. YOU choose actively to find ways to heal, to learn how to look for the positives in a situation instead of always heading straight for the pile of crap.

You can choose to think negatively; there's no way I'll ever be happy... if only someone loved me... I wish I could do that... Or, you can choose to think exactly the opposite; I can be happy with what I have in the here in now, I can learn to love myself, "I can do it if I believe it".

Read, Candybear's post. Another one

I guess it just seems weird to me. I've never been a person to think negatively. If I want something I just do everything I have to, to get what I want. I don't think bad about myself. Just know I work with what I have and that's always been good enough for me. I grew up with having nothing. I didn't even have a bed to sleep in until I was a teen and out on my own. Been on my own since I was 15 so I've learned to take things as they came and to be happy with what I had. I tend to forget that there are people who aren't happy unless they have everything.

Been thinking about my answer to you. Now it seems strange to me that you didn't relate to being happy. It's obvious to me now that you are already doing what you need to do to be happy. You already go after what you know you need to do this.

Is it that you are still not happy? Another one

Oh No I'm not unhappy in the least. I just don't think like "I'm happy because...." I just don't think about if I'm happy, sad, mad, ect... It's just something I never think about. Weird I guess because I don't stop and think about if something makes me happy or not. Guess I need to slow down and stop for the things that do make me happy.

My dog, Aggie, just told me it's because I think too much.

I really need to start spending more time around humans.

It only SOUNDS simple! LOL It's not easy at all to change your way of thinking when, for years, you've thought you could never be happy or you're looking for someone else do to it for you! Another one
