I just don't get why people think others are weird...

they put each other down...

the laugh at people who are overweight...

they call them fat.. they laugh because they are different

emo: emo is a name for those who cant handle sitiuations that are hard.. they are highly emotional...

"oh my gosh you are so emo... you like cut and everything... nobody likes emos"

one of the daily sterotypes...

just because i cut doesn't mean i emo... it just means im having trouble dealing with it properly...

I dont know why i put forward my opinion...

always remember... everyone is beautiful in every shape, colour, size, weoght and form etc.

people should love you for who you are...

not for someone you should be

I agree. "Just because" your way of dealing with some issues shows more than their way.. grrrrrr I was recently called something by a few people in a group... and trust me, I have been anything but that with them.

Have to find higher ground. (((hugs)))

People can be cruel. For that matter, they often don't care if they call you something you're not, just so they can put you down and get others to view you a certain way. Look at all the girls who are called "sluts" who have never had sex.

People have a choice in life: You can lift yourself up by improving yourself, or you can lift yourself up by putting others down.

IMHO - People put others down (or make fun of them) to make themselves feel / look better or to hide their own insecurities.... human nature can be hell at times.

((((((( HUGS ))))))) ~ ~ ~ ~ ((((((( HUGS )))))))

BTW - YOU have my acceptance just as you are.... I treat all people (doctors to the homeless) with the same respect and kindness.... money, status, size, sex or color will not make a difference in my eyes.... or heart.

I do the best that I can not to treat people unfairly. But, I still need work on my unconscious stereotyping.
I think people do it because we see it every where. We are taught that fat people are lazy. People who talk to themselves are crazy. I talk to myself and I am not crazy. I'm just a little weird.
I think people also sometimes do it to help themselves feel better about them selves. We also do it out of fear. We fear people who are different from us. I think we need to understand that fear and learn to get past our discomfort and get to know the person or persons. How does one do that? Talk to the person who seems to be lazy, scarey or whatever instead of insulting, teasing, stereotyping etc.
I feel sorry for the people who can't hide their weirdness when they want to. The mental health complex is on the bus route and I always wonder how the people getting off there feel. Are they self-conscious about being seen getting off there? I'm glad that my T is at the hospital where it is easier for me to keep it more private. (But, I suspect my employer and most my co-workers may have already figured out part of that secret because I cry at work all the time.)

Sometimes people aren't putting someone down but that's how it's taken. People can be so sensitive to their own insecurities that they turn something that was said/done very innocently into something mean and malicious.

One thing about stereotyping is, almost all stereotypes are based in reality. You see a lot of people in a certain group who have many or all of the same characteristics and traits. Some people make a blanket statement about all people of that group, but others know that while many in that group may share certain traits, not all of them do, so they will remain open-minded and willing to give each individual a chance.

Referring to the above quote: Milly, that is an interesting statement. Why do you use the word "should?" Although I know you do not mean to express a stereotype, I think you just did.

Not all stereotypes are negative.

Also it's okay to be emotional. We aren't robots.

I agree, not all stereotyping is negative, or "wrong."

But I have a real irksome reaction to most of it, especially with jokes about any particular grouping... when the jokes only put them down.

Stereotypical jokes about a group that I am in, but are truthful, are a fun way to not take ourselves so seriously, however. Sterotyping(Such as all Outdoorsy woods people carry a spark starter on their keychain.) hehehe

milly, you do have a right to feel anger and hurt. I didn't acknowledge that in your previous post. I'm sorry. (((((((huggs))))))))))) Keep venting if you need to do so. That's what this forum is meant for, if that helps you.
