I don't know why this is but it really sucks because its hard to hold my interest on anything for some reason.. Even like a movie or t.v. show for example. Don't know whats wrong with me if its depression or add. I also have trouble taking things seriously sometimes.

My therapist has said short attention span can be caused by depression.
What do you mean about "trouble taking things seriously"? What kind of things? Why do you think you should be taking them seriously and how do you react instead? |

For anyone, ppl with or without ADD, it is hard to have sustained attention on something that is boring. that just may be it. Is it a topic you are interested in? or would like to be interested in? and what do you mean when you say that you cant take things seriously? Ppl with ADHD often have issues socially as well... because proper responses are often overlooked.

As for boredom, I have found that in the past several years, I've lost interest in many of the things I used to love. I still sort-of like them, but I don't feel the pleasure I used to feel, and I bore quickly. In some cases, I'm sure it's that I've seen it all before, and nothing new is being shown. But I think something's making me this way, perhaps due to aging (I'm not old--I'm 44--but I'm not as young as I used to be, either), and it worries me how the rest of my life is going to be. I don't know if this is the same kind of thing you're going through, but figured I'd post my experiences in case it helps.

For me its kind of similar. I still love some things and am actually really excited about them but just one medium sometimes is not enough for me. I used to listen to music, read and then continue writing a paper about what I've read at the same time. And I don't know why but since then just one medium is not able to hold my whole attention for very long. Even if I am watching a movie I desperately want to see, and I am still excited while watching it, at the same time I have to fiddle with my phone or look something up just because I get kinda bored just sitting there.

Me, too, Finlay. I record a lot of TV shows on our DVR, but while I'm watching them, unless they really draw me in, I use the remote to try searches for other shows, because I need to be doing something with my hands.

ADHD and depression often go hand in hand. 70%ish of ppl with ADD/ADHD also experience depression sometime in their life. have you taken any of the quizzes here on PC?

me too but my therapist doesn't feel like it is add/adhd because all my life i have tuned out my parents because of their narcissistic and emotionally abusive ways that it is very hard for me to control my thoughts.
she (therapist) feels i do not have add/adhd and that i am exerpiencing add/adhd symptoms but not the whole thing. i told her i do have racing thoughts not balanced on anything. |

Yes you should take some of the quizzes on PC like Miswimmy1 suggested. They arent a diagnosis yes, but at least you will have some idea of where you stand. I get bored really easy too. I have to be online and watching tv to be unbored. If I am just watching tv, I flip all the channels constantly.
Btw, I took the ADD quiz and I have a moderate rating. Im not a complete loss, but its still bad enough!
