The only channel I watch is pretty much the SciFi Channel or the documentary channels.
I'm bad...I have no complaints except for editing the stuff on the SciFi Channel...

And do keep in mind that if the movie is good, but the commercials that are shown are a little to much and/ or at the wrong time of the night (kids still watching) - then you can report that as well.

Well, down here there are many stations in languages other than English...and they show the rudest stuff...in the middle of the day...you don't have to speak the language to know what message they're sending.

I've travelled a lot and our TV is downright puritan in comparison to most other countries'.

I know where YOU are coming from on that one Sky.... I solved the problem by buying a TV with a V-chip in it.... it blocks out channels and materials based on the rating you set for it.... plus I got Dish Network - you can block out any channel you do not want your family to view.

LMo, yes I believe you... The problem is, this IS the USA and we DO want the trash limited.
Rhapsody, I only have rabbit ears and broadcast channels at the time (just won't pay for all the stuff! but maybe...soon) so many of the "other" channels come booming in... just don't see why a mid day game show has to have ppl rubbing themselves on each other ![]()

If I am right and I know what channels you are talking about - - they blame it on their hot blood, that which boils from with in them - yeah right!!
Maybe try to look in a TV with a V-chip in it.... I got mine on sale for just $200. LoVe, Rhapsody - ![]() |

Ok, I know your point...my point is... ignoring that they are broadcasting such stuff is the problem.... complaining to the FCC is needed. NO ONE is allowed to put that stuff on the air when children are normally awake and watching
![]() But there is plenty in English to complain about...that "daniel" show was pulled before it aired first time!

You know for me personally I don't mind hearing cuss words and seeing an occasional butt or whatever....that don't bother me. What bothers me is some of the things I see on the cartoons my children watch. It's seriously concerning. My husband always asks me why I'm strict about cartoons it;s because some of them are vulgar, like Sponge bob Square Pants, Ren and Stimpy, and Rocko's Modern Life. I don't allow my babies to watch them, they are stuck with Sesame Street, In Between the Lions, and Arthur.
I believe they will thank me later.

just don't get rid of my beloved South Park, and you can have them axe anything else you don't like.

YES, I agree that the cartoons are getting bad these days.... they have any thing from sex to major violence.... but I also have to say that those butts, side shots of breast and people in bed together or found in their skimpiest attire are getting out of hand as well.
Now as far as South Park goes...... I am shocked LMO...... Eeeek!! - NEVER!!! - lol..... but IMHO - they are sick.... laughing. LoVe, Rhapsody - ![]() |

Well you can keep South Park if I can keep my Simpsons and Family Guy.

Speaking of... there is an absolutely hilarious South Park episode where the outraged parents protest in front of Comedy Central to get the "potty-mouthed" Terrence and Philip banned. It's one of my top-10 favorites... heh

I'm not a Simpsons or Family Guy fan. But if you think that South Park doesn't have family values, then it means that you have missed the entire point of most of their episodes.

LOL - well I have to be honest and say that the most I ever watched of them was 5 minutes here and there.... and YES, while they may have some family values in the show they also have a lot that destroys family values or values in general.... but then again that IMHO.

someone mentioned this being the USA, well there's always someone on the other side of the remote control. no one's making you watch these programs.
thats my 2 cents.

Yeah, Stargazer - I guess that's my opinion, too. I had a stepkid for 6 years, and we simply didn't get cable TV, and where we lived, we got NO reception without cable so it was really a nonissue.
Heh - for some reason, this reminds me of a Bill Cosby quote: "there is a time and a place for everything, and it's called College". I don't know if the concern here is about how TV influences kids, but I'm not much of a sheltering mindset. Anyhoo... what _Sky posted is a good link for those who want to express their concerns to the FCC. Thanks for posting it, _Sky!

I'm with Stargazer and LMo. I believe networks should be able to put whatever they want on TV. It's called freedom of speech. You can choose not to watch.
That said, I do see the frustrations parents and others who would like "cleaner" stuff for their kids and themselves to watch. While I believe networks should be free to air whatever they want (whenever they want)--with the same restrictions free speech has--I do think there should be more people out there making "wholesome" programming and being allowed to air it. I think there's nothing wrong with cartoons for adults, but a lot of the ones for kids aren't things I'd want my kids to watch. Truth be told, the old cartoons that many of us grew up with weren't always wholesome either; they often had a lot of violence, if not a lot of blood. There was racism and ridiculing of some people, as well. And while I believe in being open with kids about sex, that doesn't mean I think people should "do it" in front of them...and that includes on TV. I saw a show--maybe 20/20 or one of those news shows--where they had some parents let the show watch their kids watching TV. They let the kids watch and episode of Friends, I believe it was, and parents were kind of surprised what their kids knew, but also relieved that they didn't know everything. One of the characters had mentioned "The Pill," and none of the kids knew what that was. One girl said something like, "There's lots of pills!" I think it would be great if everyone had good choices, and I think it shouldn't be required that people have to pay for adult programming or protection from adult or more mature programming (Iike the V-chip); that doesn't mean people shouldn't be able to sell those services, but the government shouldn't require they be sold. That would be censorship, and like I said, I believe in free speech.
