If you were diagnosed with - just say X - but you knew it wasn't, but everyone said it was, so you were stuck with it.

If a few years later, the regular Dr wasn't available, so you saw a different one and the one time he saw you - you got diagnosed with a personality disorder.

But your new Dr didn't understand why and wanted to go back to X - but is doing a new assessment anyway, would you still have the personality disorder?

You would go with what the new Doc comes up with. It is possible to have many diagnosis and move through some.

I think you're the boss of you. Sometimes other people can see things in us that we can't, so depending on how we're doing at the moment, we might have to take their word for it. But when things calm down, you might be able to talk to them and have a real conversation. But if people are afraid you are going to hurt them or even yourself, yeah they get all up in your business, no matter what it is about. That's what all the laws are supposedly about.

Illnesses or diagnoses are not "things" that one has or doesn't have; they are more like other intangible objects, "freedom," "friendship," "self-esteem."

You probably have considerable personality disorder traits as well as considerable traits that go with X. Diagnoses in mental health are for the person doing the treating so they have an idea and a plan of what area to work in, what some of the issues for this person might be that they can work on with the person.

If you have a cold an stuffy nose, are you going to blow your nose or take a decongestant? Maybe both, you try one then the other, then both and see what works best for your cold. If you don't have a cold though, have allergies or the flu, does it matter? No, you still have to get that mucous out of your nose/sinuses! :-)

I have 3 Drs, my ex psychologist and my nurse and my new Dr, all say X

The Dr that changed it I saw once and he said personality disorder, my new Dr and nurse have no idea why he changed it and said I show no signs of it, so what does that mean?

Perna - I disagree, if you have cancer then you have it.

Yes, if you have cancer then you have cancer but cancer symptoms are often similar to other illnesses and with cancer there is something tangible to see on the x-rays/scans; there is nothing tangible to see about X or personality disorders, just symptoms.

I would ask your new Dr. and nurse to ask him why he changed it and/or see if it is not just a mistaken identity; maybe the Dr. was in a rush and thought you were someone else when he wrote it; presumably there would be notes he took somewhere in your files?

But if your new Dr. and nurse are working with you the way you like and agree with you on what is wrong, etc. then I wouldn't worry about whether or not the other is there or not?

Yeah I guess so.

He is with a different team, so I don't know if they will, they did see the notes though and there is nothing explaining why -it's just like he randomly changed it - I didn't even know until the nurse told me I don't have a personality disorder - it only stayed as that for like a month.

Well I don't agree with X either - but it is similar to what they go for, the nurse said the Dr will not put down what I know.
