I've had a really, really, reallllly unproductive work week so far. I'm over a full day behind at the moment. My daughter knows this.

She keeps bugging me to take her shopping - RIGHT NOW - in the middle of the work day, when I'm already struggling to get caught up. "You don't have to stay in town, you can come home." Oh, OK, yeah, I can spend TWICE as much in gas to make two round trips. I can take 3 hours out of my work day just doing the driving. I can drop everything when she decides she wants to go and when she wants to come home.

I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!

I've told her so many freakin' times "If I worked in an office, I couldn't just tell them I'm leaving and I'll be back whenever." She also knows we're on a tight auto gas budget. It costs $15 just to make one round trip now, and she wants me to do two in one day.

Argh! My daughter is getting on my nerves!

I'm starting to lose it. I got looking at my numbers for work. I have to get almost two full days of work done to be caught up. I've only managed to do one hour so far today, and it's 12:30 already. How am I going to do two DAYS when I can't even manage one hour?

I just want to give up and crawl back in bed right now. I just turned off the phone ringer and the answering machine so I don't have to listen to my daughter again.

I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out right now. I HATE feeling like this.

She's 15, so shopping is her life.

I'm so tired of having to be everything for everyone, struggling to get everything done, and rarely does anyone help me, not in any way that I really need.

Ever tell people the same thing over and over and over, and MEAN IT, but no one gets it?

Shirley, tell your daughter that if she wants to go shopping, she's gonna have to wait until you earn some money! Is there anything at all that she can help you with?? Make her earn at least her gas money!

LOL Turning off the phone and the machine is a good one! Turn abouts fair play!

She has a a baby sitting job now. It pays $10 an hour. She watches the kids next door for an hour in the morning a couple of times a week, sometimes more. She's been buying a lot of her own clothes now, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

Her friends' dad agreed to drive them in as long as someone else could bring them home. I had to go to PetCo to return a $30 dog harness anyway, so it ended up being a profitable trip.

Angie, no bus system. Argh! My daughter is getting on my nerves! We're 30 miles from the mall, in a small town surrounded by farmland.

You did the right thing by saying no, I'd definitely try to make her understand.

I agree, she should pay for gas, and tell her to go with her friends when they go. She might yell and throw a tantrum, but she won't die if she doesn't shop. Maybe you could tell her she can shop online when you come home and can watch her.
