Hi, all my life I have always associated letters/numbers with certain colors..for example..
A = Dark red B = bluish green C= Light blue D = Dark blue with a hint of brown ect. I also do the same with numbers...each one has a consistent color that never changes and I honestly thought this was normal until a couple days ago when I told someone about it they looked at me strange... Also, I see a color for every month and week day...and when I listen to music I always have a visualization going on in my head..It's like a line moving through space that translates the music into visual imagery and is very beautiful... Does anyone else experience this? Is it common? Thanks. |

I have heard of this...is it problematic for you at all? Probably not if you've just discovered not everyone experiences this. Very few actually. Rare. My question is how did you not know that others weren't having this happen. Anyway I find it fascinating and hope someone answers you with similar experience. Are you troubled by this realization seeing as now you know it's rare? Don't be...I'll try to find an article on it for you so you can have a readup. This has a name...I'll be back...

I was like "you mean....A is not red to you??? Or any other color??" And they were like "UH...no". I have had it all my life so to me it was just normal...and I cant imagine it any other way. |

I heard about synaesthesia a while ago, but the impression I got was that it's about sensory mixing . . . hearing colours, smelling sounds, etc. and not about associating colours or smells with things.
Have you been diagnosed with it? |

While I can see that a letter is in text black, it's like looking at it through a film of color. A in this text is black..but when I look at it my brain screams"red" and I see it through a film of red. I cannot look at A without there being red. I am going to a neurologist soon and will talk to him about it. But it's like letters each have their own aura of color. |

I have this too. Letters and numbers have colors and sometimes smells. Like the letter W is yellow and smells like bananas. G is dark purple and smells like cotton candy. The days of the week, months of the year, decades and centuries are all colored and have a 3D pattern in my brain, as does the alphabet and numbers. The days of the week have always been the same for me. Sunday is pink, Monday white, Tuesday blue, Wednesday yellow, Thursday brown, Friday black and Saturday green. It makes it a heck of a lot easier when trying to figure out, say, how many days ahead something is going to take place. Sometimes pictures, letters, numbers or words have a sound associated with them. Even shapes have colors, like triangles are orange.

LOL. Synestesia clash. Love when it happens.
![]() Monday, clear blue. Tuesday, yellow with a touch of lime. Wednesday orange. Thursday brown. Friday, darker blue. Saturday red without no blue tones. Sunday, white.

My sister is a talented classical musician and can remember seeing musical pitches in different colors as far back as she can remember. She thought everyone did and was surprised to learn she was pretty unique.

Monday - navy blue
Tuesday - teal Wednesday - rust red Thursday - White Friday - Pale yellow Saturday - Light blue Sunday - A weird golden yellow. Numbers are more complicated, I tend to split them up in even numbers. Even numbers tend to be shades of blue, odd numbers are usually shades of green.

Synesthesia affects a lot of people, actually. The most common types are grapheme -> and music -> color, I believe. I think weeks, words, letters, names, and numbers have colors. I also think the timbre of different instruments gives them a different shape.

Monday- navy blue
Tuesday- chrome yellow Wednesday- it's a colour somewhere between maroon on it's way to turning brown Thursday- orange Friday- deep green Saturday- white Sunday- light red Similarly for alphabets and music too... and different smells and tastes for certain words with particular sounds or mannerisms of speaking... and idk how to explain this, but i also perceive certain nouns and months at particular distance in space from me when they're mentioned |

My brother and I experience music as colours. We didn't realise it was unusual because we'd never spoken to anyone else about it

This is the thread I meant to post in earlier.... ¬¬
I have color-grapheme synesthesia and mild chromesthesia. I can only tell the latter because I have absolute pitch, though given how many pitches and key areas are orange or green, I can honestly say it is not the cause of my absolute pitch. I also have that day-of-the-week and most-months-of-the-year thing, whose colors occasionally differ from the colors of the letters themselves. For example, none of the letters in "Tuesday" are green, yet "Tuesday" as a word is green. Also, "China" is red even though none of its letters are red (but "china" is purple). One other thing I've had as long as I can remember is that my fingers on my hand have colors and personalities. The hand is a family: my index finger, blue, is the stereotypical mother; my middle finger, red, is the clean-shaven father; my ring finger, yellow-green, is the grandmother; my pinky finger, golden yellow, is the child; and my thumb, plum purple, is the jolly old grandfather (but only by process of elimination). Interestingly, the physical dimensions of my fingers don't match the relative physical proportions of the aforementioned family members, so I don't know where these "personalities" came from. |
