Hi all my wife (Nancy) asked me to post this question.

----------------------------------------------------------
Quote:
My brain is multi-tasking 24/7, you know how it is bills, bad neighbours, noise, customer complaints, bad drivers, lack of money can't sleep properly, and the list goes on and on.

It is making me "crazy" but I don't know how to stop or even slow my mind down.

I am currently taking: amitriptyline and paxil, and several "regular" meds.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
---------------------------------------------------------

I have discussed this issue with my wife, but as always a variety of opinions is best.

Thank you all!

Hi Glok, she does not have a pdoc and I doubt she will be seeing one. At least not without a lot of convincing.

No therapist either.

I thought that this was a very basic question that many people would have advice about.
I am honestly surprised by the lack of response.

Did I do something wrong by posting it the way I did?

U did nothing wrong I find most responses come between 4pm and 2am. I too suffer from rapid thoughts, hyperactivity, road rage, stress, not enough money and more.

I see a T every other week since it's what I can afford. I really should be going at least once a week especially now since a lot I bad has come up but can't afford it so im here. She really should start with a T and see what they say and then maybe a Pdoc. I know how tight money can be since I'm in a tight financial position myself. I just seem to go without most extras.

Hopefully this afternoon and night u will receive more responses from others who have an opinion on the matter at hand. Good luck

You didn't do anything wrong. I can't speak for everyone....but it's possible that those of us who suffer from this are trying to find answers to this question too, and simply don't have one. The closest I can get to slowing down my thoughts is to "talk it all out" so it's not stuck in my head, or to distract my thoughts with something else....maybe busy myself doing things I CAN do something about & sometimes (not always) that helps me not worry about things I have no control over. Sorry I can't be more helpful, I'm exhausted from racing against my mind too.

My minds always racing even now when medicated. T suggested meds for 2yrs until I finally caved and decided it was time and I was out of other options. T suggested a few pdocs I picked one calle and set up an appt. she wrote me a script a few weeks ago and I've been sticking I it. Through the side effects that I hve to say weren't too awful. Nausea comes and goes but mainly stays away as long as I hydrate. And the headaches I still get pretty intensely but I take 2 ibuprofen for that once a day when they begin.

Now even though my mind races I am sensitive to meds. They make me sleepy so I take them 2hrs before te time I need to fall asleep by and I'm out by that time. Oh but I'm super hyper from the time I get up for about 7-8hrs later.

Ripose - "I doubt she will be seeing one. At least not without a lot of convincing."

Are you, by yourself, having a hard time talking her into getting help? She may be afraid or in denial - and that is not unusual. What she is doing may seem normal even though she suffers - and you suffer with her. Getting help is SMART!!!!!!! FInding the right professional is sometimes the hard part.

She is taking two antidepressants and other meds on a regular basis. She needs to be under the care of a pdoc to review these meds on a regular basis. Antidepressants can cause manic like symptoms, I'm not saying this is the cause as it could be stress, anxiety, thyroid etc. she needs also to get tested in case there is a physical cause such as over active thyroid. Good luck

Thanks Verity.

You are right about the thyroid, I forgot she takes pills for that already.

She has opened up a little to the possibility of seeing a therapist to start with. At least now we have a starting point!
Thanks for this!
