I just read a post by thebelljar12, which rang so true with me. I am incredibly easily bored. If I'm not feeding my brain, learning something, I get very agitated.
So I'm posting this poll. I'm curious if anyone else has this experience, if it is common amongst people with mental health issues. Post your experiences. |

Easily bored? Ohhhh yes.
I can't sit through a lecture in college (or couldn't, anyway, when I was still going) without doing something other than taking notes. I used to doodle, write short stories or sketches, read something or play chess on my phone. Want to ruin my day? Put me on a train/bus/plane to somewhere and take away my notebook and my phone. I hate long trips if I'm not going by car and driving at least half the way there. And then, I have a really short attention span when it comes to work. I have to do several things at once and switch between them constantly so I can keep myself interested long enough to have a decent output. I can do only one thing at a time, but after a while I'll just blitz through it as fast as I can just to get it over with.

Hmm...I need a third option. Yes, I am easily bored, but I can also entertain myself very effectively.

I don't like being bored, as in bored to death. I think I can always find something to do, even if i don't like doing what I'm doing at the time. Is that understandable?

No. If I'm left to myself. But if you force me to do things I don't want to do, yea then I get bored. I'm too creative to ever feel bored if I'm left to myself.

I don't think it is a crutch at all. Most people with Asperger's I've met have not being fine being alone. They have often felt lonely and excluded so I think it's a myth that aspies want to be alone all the time.
I know because I am a lone wolf plus I have AS and I can see my fellow aspies look for interaction when I'm not. I don't mind people but stupid people bore the heck out of me.

No. I always find something to do. My interests are diverse so it is easy for me to prevent boredom. If I give into it, I think way too much about my problems.
If none of my pastimes alleviate the feeling, I lie down and read; it works every time! P.S. I have Asperger's and prefer my own company but I don't mind being around others from time to time, especially if they are interesting. |

I put no as I see boredom as not being able to think of anything to do, rather than always needing something to do. |

For me it's more a matter of quickly losing interest in things, or things losing their meaning. Then I just kind of float around, not wanting to do anything. It's a vicious cycle for me.

I put, yes, I bore easy. I've just learned to work around that, finding some way or another to keep hobbies, etc, that I use to work through that bored feeling. And I choose jobs, that I know, boredom won't be too big of an issue for me. Getting bored at work, can be a slippery slope for me.

I said no because I love the moments in my life when I have nothing to do, no one to take care of, nowhere I have to be. I don't get bored; I cherish those moments because as a wife, mother of three, and high school teacher, having nothing to do is such a rarity and a blessing.

God yes...but I am so anxious it's hard to relax and let myself feel something else. I can't even relax and watch a movie on Netflix because my head won't stop spinning...and eventually the same spinning crap gets boring.
I did take an ADD test once and they said that no, I was just easily bored. So I guess that answers that. ![]() |
