I have a very vivid dream life. Usually, if I dream about someone in particular....someone I've actually known....it is because they have figured strongly in my life. Last night (or early this morning), I had a dream which left me feeling disturbed.
I came here last year after a hurtful attempt at a relationship with a fella (psych Ph.D), devastated that I fell in love and he did not! I became physically involved with him very quickly and expressed anxiety to him about it. The result was emotional devastation for me, with recurring thoughts of stabbing myself in the heart with sharp knives. All that has passed now, and I have felt recovered, though I actually continued to email him occasionally until about a month ago.
I had never dreamed about him until last night, in which we were hiking near my childhood home, and I said abruptly, "I love you," and he respnded, "I don't love you!" I woke feeling emotionally sapped, and depressed, but then continuing my day, I was and am fine. I take this dream as a sign that I have finally processed the experience, knowing that I only dream of things I have moved beyond.
I would like to hear how others have experienced dreams as a recovery process.

YES - I personally feel as though we use our dreams to process and heal from daily life and wounds.... it is an inner release valve.
