American,s don't get English humour. I was in a bar/pub and a guy said to the bar lady, this beer is going down well, your starting to look attractive. We choked on our beer
Thanks for this!

Note: I was speaking as a member here, not in my job capacity.....

sewerrrats, I got the humor in the statement to the bar lady! In fact, I really enjoy English humour--as in shows such as "Are You Being Served?," "Keeping Up Appearances," and "Waiting for God." Diana on the last show I mentioned has a wicked sense of humor, and I really enjoy her cutting comments about the workers at the Bayview. And I know some other folks from The States who enjoy shows such as those ones.

But I'm sure you're right that not all Americans get it. You folks tend to have a more dry sense of wit, overall, don't you? Or is that an overgeneralization?

Interesting: When I typed the word "humor" after the word "English," the English spelling appeared! I guess "u" English use more "you's" than we do in America!

Thanks, sewerrats. I assume this video is an excerpt from a more recent show? I did get some grins out of it, but I can't say I would make a steady diet of it! Too much for this old lady!

Yes, the shows I mentioned are old. We just get re-runs of English shows on PBS.

I watch "Family Guy" sometimes, when I am in the mood for such a show.

I assume you are referring to the digging around the girl. What was he supposed to be doing? Digging her up? Covering her up?

The content just posted is more exciting than watching paint dry, to be sure.
How much more exciting than watching paint dry? That's another question.

I've watched several issues though the years. Is the digging symbolic of what goes on in Family Guys home, buried in his back yard.

The working out part was amusing! But Quaqmire had to get back inside, with one buff arm and 5 oclock shadow

I often find myself making jokes about silly things - and it often gets me in trouble.

For example, this weekend I cracked what I thought was a funny joke about someone being gay, I'm not a homophobe, I have had gay friends. Sometimes I shouldn't say words... I didn't know the dude I was trying to have a laugh with, but he immediately got violent and angry, almost hit me and really upset me. I mean, I must have really upset him too. I felt guilty, disgusting and I shut down.

Another example is I make jokes about pretty tabboo subjects while at work. I can't seem to stop myself. I don't seem to have any social filter anymore, where as before I did.

My humour can be quite dry and sarcastic, but on the other hand it can also be very flamoyant and over the top.

My only friend says that it's just who I am and I should embrace it. She's got mental health issues as well. But how am I supposed to embrace something that will effectively isolate me from society?

Gah.

I'd say, if you're looking for some razor-sharp humor, watch Arrested Development. The entire premise of the show is that everyone is basically a horrible person, but they all hate each other for being horrible. I don't know, I find that stuff hilarious.
