after a conversation with our lovely poetrylover, my mind realised i dont know enough about asperger disorder, so while i had my chance i took to having a look around the internet for some information, lots out there but its only telling you text book stuff not what parents and children suffer, what situations to be aware of . for those of you who dont know i have a daughter who is 22 she was diagnosed as add/ with learning dificulties and behavioural problems , but i been wondering if shes been miss diagnoised because some of these things that i have been reading sound more like her she is allready on one of the meds that they recomend and i have to go and get her meds reviewd, the only problem is her doctor has been moved and she wil have to see a locum, so i will let you now what the doctors say

Kathy... lets talk again soon... ! We might be able to help each other in this tough situation. I felt that you and Dec really understood what's going on in our family because of my son's asperger. When it comes to meds... we've seen a psychiatrist asking about meds for our son... He says there aren't any tested on kids and maybe the little empathy that he has got, might also go away with meds. We wanted to have something for his anxiety and outbursts... we'll have a second opinion. It's never fun to use meds, but sometimes it's needed to lead a some what better life.

I feel for you and your kids. Which medication is your daughter taking?

I'm always here for you and Dec, Kathy. You're doing an amazing work taking care of your children! I'm proud to be your friend!

Contact me when ever you want to!

in answer to your question , daughter first took ritilin when she was about 10 yrs this never really helped her a lot by the time she went to secondary school (between the ages of 11and 16) the med stopped working alltogeather and she was taken of it well before she hit 16 even though she was in a special class attached to a regular school she started taking carbamazepine which normally is used for epaletic fits but in our daughters case it was used to help stabalize her mood swings, she is still on carbamazepine but in the form of tegretol retard because this is a slow release form, also she stated on risperidone/risperdol to help take the edge of her moods, she went to collage for 3yrs just to help her learn to live a normal life but she wasnt able to go into the real world so she now at the age of 22 she attends a center for adults with learning dificulties and disabilites
