The terribly sad part of all this, is it is such a rare occurence for a death from a stingray, they are known to be dorcile. At the New England Aquarium here, they have tanks where they are hand fed...so so sad. I was just so shocked and deeply saddened. Not often I get all too emotional about a celebrity, but he and his wife Terri just seemed like genuine people. My thoughts and prayers go out to Terri and the kids, and anyone else that Steve's heart touched. May he rest in peace, and all the good he did for this world's ecology live on.

I'm saddened also. I have actually laughed out loud at some of his antics.

Hi All,

I heard on a show that Australia has more dangerous animals and creatures than any other continent.

Steve leaves a wonderful legacy for his family and the world.

I am an aussie & was dumbfounded when I heard the news about Steve Irwin.....
I was also astonished at his popularity in America & overseas.....
I am sad over the lost of such a wonderful person, he has done so much for conservation & wildlife......
At times he actions were highly questionable (the baby bob incident) but all in all he did wonderful things for the things he truly believed it!!!

I must say it was disgusting that news of his death was publicly advertised before his own family had been informed of the news!!!!!

Thanks for the videos. What a loss! He did so much for wildlife preservation. I admire his courage. I wonder if he was ever afraid of anything. There's someone who fully lived his life.

I don't think I've ever been so sad about a person dying whom I haven't even known before. I really wish that Steve hadn't died like this. So sad for his family. I was watching stuff about him last night and I was in fits laughing. He was so funny. So honest and childlike. I loved how he would get so excited. He was an amazing bloke. We need many more passionate people like him in the world.

I really think you have a responsibility to lay off the risky stuff once you have kids...but a stingray? He probably wouldn't have expected that in a million years. He was a great entertainer. He'll be missed.

Three people have died in from stingrays in Australia ever (at least that is what I heard in the media ...?)

So it was definitely unlucky.

I'm with Ben on the risky stuff - and seeing him waving his baby around in front of a croc a few years was horrifying.

I understand he did a great amount for conservation etc, but I guess 'teasing' wildlife animals for show was an interesting way to do it.

Estee the last time I remember being this sad is when Lady Diana got killed and then 9/11. I was watching Animal Planet last night and they were showing a bunch of things about him. Asking him and Terri why they did what they did with Baby Bob . While I dont condone what they did.. I do understand it. It makes more sense to me now.

I think I would have loved to have been like Steve. Excited to live life every day. To get up and want to do what I loved to do. Terri knew what he did for a living when she married him. His kids have known that too. Listening to Bindi Sue last night.. she was so proud of her daddy. It brought tears to your eyes. Nothing is going to take that away from those kids. They lived that life with him. And they loved it too. The memories will always be theirs to cherish . Death of Steve Irwin, Crocodile keeper

MY POV on DEATH.......

It does not matter were we are or what we are doing when DEATH comes to call upon us, for when it is our time to go it is our time to leave our loved ones.... no matter if we are sitting at home hiding in fear of this world or out there living LIFE - to the fullest.

... two things you cannot escape and they are - DEATH & TAXES.

LoVe,

I hold great RESPECT for STEVE, for taking control if his own life and for living it his way.

I watched "Confessions of a Crocodile Hunter" last night on the Animal Planet channel. It brought plenty of tears to my eyes. What passion that man had for ANYTHING that he loved!! Of course, his mother, in a past interview, mentioned that she considered him almost hyperactive. Between his passion and his excess of energy, he had no choice but to live the way he did. I'm not sure whether I envy him his drive or not. It's exhausting to see him focused on something! I would certainly love to have just a drop of that drive, though.

His sensitivity, his fearlessness in expressing his feelings and showing them were all very endearing to me. The reasons that he cried regardless of him saying that he was holding back the tears, they touched my heart.

When he and his wife expressed their belief in bringing up their kids within the passion of their parents in relation to the "Baby Bob" incident was understandable to me then. It was good to hear his father say that he didn't know whether he would have done the same thing, but his assurances that the baby was in no danger were also good to hear. I understood Steve's explanation of why they did it, but like Steve's father, I don't know that I would have done it.

I pray that "Baby Bob" and Bini have inherited their father's love of wildlife. This world needs someone like Steve to carry on. The wildlife of this world is a tremendous gift and except for Steve and those like him, we are misusing this gift. The wildlife of this world needs champions like Steve Irwin.

Rather than to say, "Rest in Peace," I'm changing it to "Long Live Steve Irwin!!"

I was watching those shows last night too. Confessions of a Crocodile Hunter. I was in tears more than once watching. I too never felt so much angst for someone I haven't known (with exceptions of Princess Di, and 9.11 I cried openly as well). I found the more I watched the more amazed I became of this man. Born on the same day as his mother. They shared such a special bond. That family is soooooooo full of love. The love of father and son. Both generations there. Just amazing. He will be so sorely missed. I hope Terri will continue this legacy.

Wasn't it so heart wrenching when he was asked when we you step down/aside? When his children are passed the ball-to continue the legacy. The pride he had in his voice for his children to continue, because of the opportunity he was afforded by his parents. This man was truly something special. Selfless, loving, caring, and a down right hoot. I looked at some of the clips on discovery...just too wonderful!!!! The zoo itself an extended family! He will be so missed by so many!!! May his enthusiasm, and energy inspire us all, in even the smallest of ways to take a "risk" no matter how big or small it maybe...and just do it!!!!

steve irwin was the teacher that every child and adult alike could sit and watch and enjoy , he would catch croc's, track snakes, and what would end this wildlife expert's life, and fish, etc.......the only thing i am happy about is he died doing the thing he loved.
my heart dropped when i heard the news, i hope his wife (terry) and his children (bob, bini) are getting all the support they need.
Death of Steve Irwin, Crocodile keeper my prayers go out to his family, steve irwin will never be forgotten

I heard from someone today that is very talented in science. That he heard Steve I. felt it come in him but the moment he pulled it out OUCH he was dead! Why because (warning here this is a little harsh) on the bulb of the stingray there are teeth, it goes in easy but coming out it the opposite. So it just ripped his heart apart. How nasty! This was from a news report the witness of this terrible rather abrupt death happened.
