With Ford cutting back on their jobs, closing factories and all that.. it will probably mean a cut back on my husbands work too. His factory makes parts for Ford, GM and Chrysler Diamler. I am so mad at anyone who promotes sending jobs to other countries!!!!!! We need to support our employers here! This country is so screwed up .. This is why I hate politics! I cant even listen to it without getting angry. And I am sorry I am talking about it but when it involves our living .... I get angry, and frustrated and most of all scared. Sorry .. I just needed to get this off my chest.. thanks for listening.

That is very scarey.

I guess he could update his resume' now and start looking out for other jobs out there before they start handing out the pink slips and everyone else is out there too? It may make you both feel better if he took action now to cover your butts. It'll still be scarey but you'll have a little comfort in knowing that you're ready to leap into action if need be.
And remember-he will get unemployment if he is laid off so that will help to tie you over.
It's all going to work out okay, Beth-it always does. You are survivors and you will get through this.

Outsourcing is just more economically viable a lot of the time

Here, you may ring a call centre and it could go through to India or Australia.

(the difference though is that here unemployment is at almost an alltime low - in some fields there are almost more jobs than people!)

My father is in the same spot. He'll be unemployeed within two years. And you know that means that pension that you've been building for 35 years, gone. Health care, gone. These companies are slime.

That must be awful and so stressful for you. When I went to visit my parents in the US I bought a flag to take home (the americans and there flags! lol ) and on the flag was a tag that read "Made in China"! Can you believe it?

(((beth))) so sorry, years ago I got my job cut as a medical transcriptionist due to outsourcing...it miffed me more than anything because of all the legal & ethical aspects of records (sending all that confidential information to another country seems some how very very wrong to me)...I know this may not help your situation at the moment, but start writing to your local selectmen, senators, representatives and congressmen....we have to somehow over turn this outsourcing...it's become a political debate once again (ie: bring the jobs back home!!!)

I am so sorry Beth. I lost my career in the automotive field due to downsizing etc (it happened at the same time as my breakdown though so was probably a good thing). I worked closely with the companies you mentioned though and I know just how cut-throat it can be.
