Hi. i was wondering if people could link their depression / disorders from a physical trait? Or if we are born with a predisposition for ------ and the trait just makes matters worse. With me my severe low self esteem, slight paranoia and avoidance of most social situations and mirrors try to avoid stems from being bullied in the work place, college and school, parents ready with the(mild version of what was said) ugly and stupid comment at any wrong i did. I have a cleft palate and lip, my jaw and teeth arewonky i have no real defined chin and my yeyes are spaced far apart and shaped like squished sharp oval.

Not sure if I'd link mine to my depression nor anxiety. However, I am sure that any self esteem issue that you've felt a result of your birth defect, could indeed create a situation where you have depression.

My teeth, also, will never be perfect. As much orthodontic work that was done, some things just aren't meant to be perfect. I didn't get bullied in school over that. Before I had my tonsils removed, as an adult, I used to have an agape mouth appearance from breathing through my mouth. I do recall, back in '09, my stepmom's sister inlaw mentioning that I seemed to have grown into my mouth. After the tonsillectomy I was better at nose breathing, and not mouth breathing.

I was fortunate, with the surgeons I had, as a baby. I was once, highly insulted at a dentists office, because I don't have a tooth, right next to my top two front teeth, thanks to scar tissue. Hmph. Highly insulted, because of the way cultural shifts have resulted and people missing teeth are usually associated with doing illicit things. Hmphh.

Would you say, that your depression is environmental or genetic? I, personally, err on the side of environmental. My anxiety, I'd go with neurological.

Very gentle hugs sent your way (((((jova))))) and (((((healingforme))))).

I understand where you're both coming from & the related emotions much better than you can imagine. I just cannot bring myself to go down that road by being any more specific...it brings out very intense emotions inside of me. {Self-hate, low self-esteem, depression}

Hi shezbut thank you. Hi healingme4me thank you for replying i laughed when i read your missing teeth bit, as yesterday i went to get my sons tabs from local chem and new phamcist was on she automatically though i was in the chemist for my 'dose' geez yes i have drug problems but not the ones where i fall asleep! or need methodone think it was my wonky n teeth missing smile that did it for her. After reading your reply i do think a big chunk is environmental but somewhere thereas to be a gene thing as my parents are not quite normal. I remember as a kid hiding a pump action shotgum under the bottom bunk matteress as my dad tore apart the house wanting to use the gun on himself after being guilty of beating up my mum. I remember this time as clear as day as i got my brothers and sisters to sit on the bed with me.
