I was googling for compulsive shopping and found this forum. I read a very interesting article but cannot find anything in community when I search.
I am spending way too much money on model horses and letting my bills go. I am 9 months behind on my mortgage and my mortgage holders have threatened legal action. So I am timbering my farm to catch up on the back mortgage but yet this weekend I committed to buy 3 more horses, one of them costing $1500, eating up quite alot of my timber money. If I would lose my farm and more importantly, my horse I don't know if I would have the will to go on. Yet I am setting myself up by continued spending.
Send help!

I have been diagnosed with bipolar & I did compulsive shopping--buying things that I didn't need or couldn't afford or were just plain stupid--like an $800.00 vacuum cleaner, gold-plated tweezers for myself & my daughter, luggage when I have plenty, etc. Have you seen a therapist or doc who could maybe help you with this before you go into financial ruin? It could be a way to alleviate stress (like binge eating or drinking--I've done both) or it could be a symptom of a mental illness.--Suzy

My suggestion to you would be to go to a financial debt specialist. They work with people who are so far in debt they can't dig their way out. They are able to budget your money & make it so you can't spend anything other than what your debt requires. They are the best thing to keep you honest until you get your financial situation together again.

I know when I am depressed, shopping makes me feel good....then I lookback & wonder where in the world did the money go & what did I actually get for it. My husband is also that way...& was that way with buyint Ty Beanie Babies. Now that I am packing for moving, I am finding out everything I have & wondering why I have 30 of the same one. They all look the same...just represent a different city. He is now being treated for adult ADD & he & I realize that is part of what adult ADD does too.

Just because we have reasons to compulsive shop....it doesn't make it right & it is good for you to find a professional that can help you stop & keep your money away from you paying only your bills until you are able to put your spending life back under your own control.

This is off subject, but I am wondering where your farm is? I am just now getting back in touch with the real estate agent I was working with in Kentucky where I am going to buy a farm for me & my horses....where I can finally retire to.

I can understand how you would fall apart if you lost your farm & horses. I love my horses so much & my america eskimo dogs, that I would just die if I didn't have them with me. I hope you can get your spending under control. I do know there is professional help available here in the USA for debt problems....That would be the very first place & would go to them immediately.....no losing your farm or horses....the live ones can give alot more love than models. Maybe you can sell some of your model horses over ebay or something like that to get some money while getting your spending under control.

I too shop till I'm in a pit, I mainly spend every dime I get my hands on on toys and clothes for my kids, then some clothes for myself, but especially for my kids. I've worked hard and have changed alot over the years with money. I still do make mistakes, but I've gotten so much better. What helps me is not having the cash at easy access....I got rid of my check book, debit and credit cards, then I put all my cash in the bank (which I made sure wasn't right down the road), and deposited all of it. Then when I need the money I have to go to the bank during open hours and withdrawal for cash. It was a good way for me to keep my hands out of the piggy bank. It's hard not spending even when you know what is more important, I hope you can get this under control so you will not lose anything to dear to you.
