Maybe I added the wrong 2+2 together. It was "sick puppies" and "energy (good or bad, it doesn't really seem to matter - as long as it's feeding me)" to an adrenaline junkie. That's what THEY do, ya know...
![]() 1) I don't consider myself a "sick puppie" 2) Adrenaline is the last thing I want to be addicted too, since my body puts out too much and causes panic attack. No thank you!!

<font color="darkblue"> As I continue to think and post on this thread, so what? LOL I mean, if there are those who do read the trigger icon labelled threads just for the "thrill" then they are in the right place imo: Psych Central!
![]() For some ppl their brain chemicals just aren't being produced in normal amounts, or for some reason the person needs MORE... if reading a post/thread can help them attain an adrenaline high and thus feel a little better, then I say GO FOR IT! Certainly it's cheaper than a doctor's visit or medicine. Of course, it's probably a short lived fix, and maybe detrimental in the long run, but I like to think that we do what we can when we can. If that means someone might earn the title of "sick puppy" briefly, well, I think there are worse things to live with. ![]()

1) I must use more appropriate adjectives & nouns.
2) Usually panic attacks are triggered by something - a thought, a song, a look, etc. Whether you are aware of it or not, your mind is feeding your body signals in order to react. Your body, if you have been ill for a while, is most likely used to and looks for (and to feed) this feeling, because it is this feeling that is normal for your body. So for you to say you are not "addicted"(not the word I would really use, but...), doesn't really jive. If you weren't, it would be quite easy to stop any anxiety attack. You may be missing the cues to what triggers your anxiety attacks. Please consider "you" as general terminology. Anyway, why do you think there is such a high rate of reading amongst these posts? Do you think it is always done for altruistic reasons? Just wondering... ![]()

Alteredstate1, why does anyone read posts here? Where is the statistical documentation to the idea that they (the trigger icon noted threads) are read more often?

Im not "drawn" to them either. if I am having a hard day I stay away from them. If I am having an ok day I pay attention to the subject lines. Without opening the thread I can set my curser on the subject line and see a small "preview" of that starting post. if I get a wierd feeling when previewing I don't enter. But if I am ok I go into the thread while paying close attention to how I am feeling. if I get the least bit uncomfortable I leave the thread right away.
I also use my ignore icon so that I know know which type of posts I need tostay away from or which poster I need to stay away from for a bit. I also take many braks from the site and boards when needed. this way my getting triggered beyond my control never to rarely happens on line. And when it does I know that it is not the post content fault and not the posters fault it is mine because I choose what I read and what I don't. So I am the one that has to take care of me. |

I've lived with panic attacks for over 22 yrs. I know what causes them and I know sometimes they just come on "because."
Addiction = "because it is this feeling that is normal for your body" Neither my mind nor my body think/feel this as normal. The two points that I have made are what stand out most about your post; the general inclusion of why people read the triggering posts and the WHY. I learned a long time ago to speak for myself and myself ONLY and to OWN my own "stuff."

You have quite a unique perspective on things, Skye! That's great. Unique is also something I am drawn to - good or bad; healthy or otherwise.
I just try to stay as balanced as possible! ![]() I guess today, not so balanced?

Many ppl who do know what triggers them fail to work on diminishing their effect, thus resulting with the same outcome: continued panic attacks. However, far be it from me to get into the midst of a discussion of disagreement between two members. ![]()

Actually, I think you just skewed your own findings altered hehehe as THIS thread sans trigger icon, has a high percentage of views. Perhaps it's the strong following of LEGENDARY responses that cause others to read.
