My wife of fourteen years -going on fifteen in two weeks- has suddenly gone completely insane.
Yes I am sure you hear that a lot, but seriously she cooked a can of dog food today, the onions (and only the onions) from a package of Hamburger Helper last night. Her uncle died a few months ago, and last night she asked me where he was. These are just three examples of my home turning into Crazy Town -just since Thursday.
She had a fever on Thursday night, and takes some kind of anxiety med regularly, but This Is All entirely new behavior. I am really starting to worry ALOT about her and plan to force her to go to her doctor tomorrow.
I have to go now -she is banging something in the other room -god alone knows what.
Please Help!

Hello and welcome to Psych Central! I would be worried, too. And would want to get her to the doctor as soon as possible.

She could have some sort of physical problem, I think, such as a stroke or a tumor, or as I guess you suspect, some sort of mental problem. I am sorry she is sick and hope that doctors can figure out what her problem is soon.

I also hope she won't put up too much of a battle about going to the doctor.....I'm not sure you should confront her with her bizarre actions, but let's see what other folks have to say.
Thanks for this!

Hello. I agree with Payne. I would suggest taking your wife to the E.R. if you can't get her in to see the Dr. very quickly. She could have mental health issues or she might have a physical ailment causing this. I wish you both the best and please let us know what happens.

Best,

Jan

I really would urge you to take her to the ER now. It's possible it is an acute stress reaction brought on by months of anxiety.

It is very possible it is something much worse. I am really not trying to scare anyone or do the fear monger thing- but if it is anything physical these are bad signs and the sooner she is seen the better off she will be.

Sudden bizarre behavior in officials who have n ever exhibited is a huge red flag to seek medical attention, particularly when accompanied by any injury or fever...

I know the impression might be that "going crazy" can happen in an instant, and for people with chronic mental illness an episode might develop faster than for those without a history.

But very few people do something akin to the "zero to sixty" you are describing. Please seek medical attention, it would be much better to overreact than under react in this case.

This is worth an ER visit.
Thanks for this!

Please bring her to the ER. Sudden changes in behavior may be a sign of a medical issue as others may have mentioned. Be sure they test for a UTI.
