I'm new here.
I joined in search to find out if something is wrong with me, and what it would be.
To start out, I'm 21, in average phisical health. Other than MDD, no other diagnosed psychological problems. Currently not on any medication.
Why I came here, is I have a very strange issue. It's something I can't talk to anyone in person about, it's imbarassing to a point.
The best way to describe it is that I have mentally created a different life for myself. It's pretty much I daydream about, sometimes I dream about it when I sleep. It's nothing like a fantasy, or sifi, of adventure or anything like that, I'm not a different person in this life, just in a different situation. It's a daily thing, it's been going on for years, like I can't remember when I started, maybe at the age of 12/13. I really didn't realize I was doing it till about a year and a half ago, and I still continue to do it. It doesn't affect my real life in any way.
I want to know if it's a specific condition, or I anyone else has this same problem.

Im sorry we can not diagnose your problems, to find out whether this is a specific condition, you will need to contact your doctor.

all we can do here is tell whether we had the same problems that you are having and what we do about that problem in ourselves and what our doctors tell us to do about our own problems.

what I can tell you is that I have quite an imagination and daydream sometimes. my own treatment providers tell me that my daydreaming in general with no accompanying symptoms and that do not affect my life is completely normal... on the other hand they tell me when I daydream accompanied by other symptoms it is part of my mental disorder symptoms. I have bipolar disorder, Dissociative disorders, PTSD, and Multiple Sclerosis.

Again to find out why you are daydreaming and whether its in your words a specific condition you will need to contact a doctor where you live.

When you say you have MDD, what are you referring to?

It's just that there IS a specific name for what you describe and it fits those initials, as it happens. It's called maladaptive daydreaming disorder, or compulsive fantasy. If you do a forum search for maladaptive daydreaming there have been a few threads on it.

Hope that helps.

I did some light reading about maladaptive daydreaming, and it looks as though you have hit the nail on the head.
By MDD I meant Major Depressive Disorder.
The artical I read noted that many people that have maladaptive daydreaming suffer from depression, so I guess that makes since. I have been on a few anti depressants, and I noticed that while on Zoloft, I rarely thought about it, like it was gone, and shortly after quitting, I began doing it again, so it all sort of makes since now.

With all due respect, this is a topic that you should discuss with a mental health practitioner. We are not certified to diagnose. If it is not adversely affecting your life I wouldn't worry about it.

Maybe it isn't a problem but a really good imagination. If it isn't affecting your life adversely I think I might embrace what could be a wonderful gift.
