I was having a hard time trying to figure out why I'm here and what is the purpose to my life.
Anyway, something happened today that made me realize that I am not just another body on this earth.
I got my stitches out from my surgery and walked to the pharmacy at a local mall. I had to wait for the bus and as I was standing there a 73 year old gentleman tripped when trying to step up the curb. I thought he was going to get up, but when he didn't I asked if he was OK. He really couldn't say much. He was face down on the concrete.
I asked someone to please get some help. I tried my cell phone, but it went to the CHP and was impossible to get through.
The poor guy was bleeding, but because he was face down I couldn't tell how bad it was. Someone gave me some tissues that I gave to the man to put on his head.
A girl came back with a police officers assistant. He called the Fire dept. and ambulance. About 5 minutes later they showed up.
The fireman asked if there were any other witnesses and I stated that there were, but they all got on the bus. I was the ONLY one that stayed with this poor guy.
The fireman then asked why I didn't just get on the bus like everyone else(he really was curious why I cared so much).
I told him that I looked at the situation as if that were my family member. I would never have left him alone.
He told me I am a really good person and he wishes there were more people like me in the world. I told him that it was no biggie and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
After they left, I realized that I had to wait another 45 minutes for my bus. I was a little dissappointed, but I felt so good about being able to help this man.
It put a smile on my face that hasn't been there in a while and I am proud of myself.
Just had to share

That is wonderful! It reminded me of a boyfriend I had who slipped in some ice downtown getting up a curb/crossing the street and a bus came along and didn't see him, would have run over him if a bystander hadn't pounded on it and stopped it. My boyfriend was horribly shaken for a week, kept describing how he saw the wheel/tire coming for his head, etc. Needless to say, I was very grateful for that observant person who worked to help! Your good deed didn't just help you and the older gentleman, it helped all who know/love him. Good "example" for me to follow too! :-)

Good for you!

Yes, it's amazing how so many ppl in this world just move right on with their own dramas, never thinking to help another! To me, what else is life for?

Thanks! Yeah, after having what I thought was the worst week ever, it ended up being alright so far.
This just kind of snapped me out of my own world for a minute and helped me realize that there is more to life! I love helping out others. It makes me feel good.

Hello Onlymedid,

The fireman was right! You are a very special person, indeed! I'm sure the man would have thanked you had he not been hurt so bad. Also, I am sure that his family is very grateful to you.
You did a wonderful thing.

That's a really kind act! Just the sort of thing Jesus preached, as I recall. I wonder how many "Christians" got on that bus?

45 minutes is a small price to pay for the opportunity to increase the amount of good karma in the world. It's kind of like that movie "Pay It Forward", or the TV commercial where one kind act begets another. You know, even a kind, heartfelt smile to a stranger has the potential to drastically change the world...you just don't know how such a seed, when planted with love, will grow and bear fruit.

You are exactly right, you discovered why you were put here...and the rest of us, too!

Peace,
DJ
