I just found my daughter's guinea pig has died. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to tell her when she gets home from school today. She's our little drama queen so it won't be easy, and she's had the pig since it was a baby. My daughter is almost 11 (she's my Christmas baby). She will be upset, which is upsetting to me. Any ideas on how to make it ok? What to say?

Hello just tell her the truth. Maybe you can go to the pet shop and get her another one soon if she wants another guinea pig. Hopefully she will not get too upset. Take care Soidhonia

I'm sorry! I never did find an easy way of telling my kids that one of their pets had died. Depending on the kid was what I was in for as far as "drama." They seem to find a lot of comfort in the "burial and service" for some reason.
I never tried it, but if you go buy one now and replace the dead one, the excitement of the new one may make the rest go easier. I'd disinfect the cage and replace all the bedding, though, just in case. Don't know if you have enough time for that.  At any rate, the dead guinea pig deserves a decent burial.

Thanks for the replies. My daughter is fine, she was very upset but seems to be taking it in stride. She does want a burial so we will have to dig through about a foot of snow. It will be a cold, SHORT service, though!
She actually has another guinea pig because her friend's had babies. Hopefully this isn't some pig virus and the other one goes. Thanks again.

i'm glad you're having a funeral. we always had them for pets when my children were growing up. i think it helps them with the actual loss.
