|
do you guys remember me asking about the organization The Goodfellows? Well I found the website about a week before Thanksgiving and I wrote a letter to them. I gave them the kids names and ages and a small list of what the kids wanted for Christmas! Well I hadnt heard anything from them and was beginning to get discouraged until about 20 minutes ago! I noticed that I had a missed call on my cell phone. i didnt recognize the number. So I listened to my voice mail and it was them calling me back!
I called them back and talked to the guy that had called me. He seemed really nice and sounded pretty happy to hear from me. He also told me that his own mother had had cervical cancer. He wants to meet with the family next week. It does not gaurantee that they will receive the presents or the dinner but I am hoping that they have a good chance. They sure can use the help! He asked me if I wanted him to tell them who nominated them and I told him no, I would like for it to be a secret, but that I wanted him to tell them that there were some people thinking of them in their time of hardship! He promised he would! He said he will verify my story with theirs and if it all checks out, they would more than likely help them out! I am soooo excited I almost started crying!!!!!!

it feels great!!! I just wish I could see the face of those kids and the face of the parents...I know that the dad is working his butt off for his family and with his wife being sick I know it has to be hard on him! I just hope that it all works out for them!

*******UPDATE**************
I am doing my Christmas shopping this weekend and the kids are picking up presents for this family. So I called the dad of this family and asked him what he had gotten the kids for Christmas as I didnt want to duplicate it. He said to me that he hadnt gotten them anything yet. He then said to me, "Someone nominated us for The Goodfellows and we are going to that dinner on Saturday." I was totally beside myself!!!!! I was so excited! I could hardly hold it in! But I did really well and did not spill the beans! i just said wow that is awesome and started asking him questions again. I got of the phone and got all teary eyed!!! Those kids have been through alot and now they will have a great Christmas!!!!

for some reason i cant quit crying! I am so excited for this family! I mean the get to have a great dinner at Outback steak house and get to see Santa, plus they will get great gifts!!!

Mel is amazing! How many of us think of doing something like this any day of the year... or even the holidays! It's something we all need to consider doing. It doesn't cost anything except a moment of our time!

ok guys, i have one more thing to tell you.. I had talked to one of the vendors that comes to our work about this family, and told him what i was trying to do for them. He told me that he would help me out if he could in anyway!
So he called me yesterday and wanted to know if the little boy had gotten the game he wanted for Christmas and i told him that he had not gotten it yet! So this morning he calls me and says hey come out sid right quick... there he stood with this 50.00 video game that this little boy wanted so bad for Christmas!!!!!!! I am in total awe at the way people go out of their way to help others in need!! What an angel!
