I find myself taking to myself at loud. My coworkers have mentioned it to me as well it doesn't bother them they think I'm just quirky. But I'll find myself answering.myself and holding conversation with myself. I feel very weird when I realize I'm doing that uh n my public and a bit embarrassed. Any suggestions as to why I do this?

I do not think it is uncommon. Most people do it silently in their heads - you (apparently) just need to do it out loud.

If this upsetting to you maybe try to do it quieter or maybe start to play some quiet music at your desk to muffle your own talking.

Gods blessings to you.

Are you lonely? Or alone a lot? i think a lot of people ho are or have been isolated from other people a lot do this just because humans are by nature social creatures so by at least hearing your own voice it might comfort you/hold off lonelyness/madness or something maybe.

I do it too...just 'short bursts over a very long day' (like the commercial says) but also in my car on the way home. I say outloud, things I would like to have said to coworkers, family etc and am thrilled for 'hands free' technology. People just think I'm talking on the phone. lol

any suggestions as to why you do this? no only you can say why you do or dont do something....

I can tell you why I talk to myself....

it helps me to figure things out sometimes if I verbalize it.
it can save my sanity some days...Im the parent of twin toddlers. theres only so much child babble a person can take some days lol
it reinforces talking verbally, speech skills, thinking skills in children when they hear adults talking and thinking /processing things...
talking to oneself comes naturally to most humans that date back many ages.
talking to oneself helps me to calm my self down during anxiety...ok yes Im anxious, breath, everything is going to be ok...
self talk/talking to one self is a therapy approach that is taught my just about every mental health treatment provider here in the City..example when you start thinking negative about yourself counter that by saying aloud a positive thing about yourself...what a jerk I am for not putting the remote out of the childrens reach..no Im not a jerk I just feel like one and now I know that if I leave the remote in reach of the children it will most likely be found in the toilet. time to start thinking ahead and buy a couple universal remotes to have in the kitchen drawer for such emergencies....
one time I talked to myself because it was a medication side effect that made me verbally echo my thoughts.
sometimes I talk to myself as part of my mental and physical health symptoms....

there are many different reasons why a person talks to their self and only you and your treatment providers can say why you do so...

my suggestion if this continues to bother you contact your treatment providers. they can assess whether the problem is normal, a physical or mental health issue and what to do about it.

I've done this as long as I can remember. Haven't been bound and gagged yet by anyone who's heard me doing this. I don't worry about it though. My husband thinks I'm goofy for doing it. Oh well, to each his own. I do think it helps me process my thoughts. Instead of writing them down, I speak them out loud. Hope you don't worry about this too much. It's something you do and are you harming anyone by doing it? If no one is being harmed or you're not causing distress to others around you, then I'd say just relax and enjoy your self-talk.
