My brother and I have a joint blog called His & Hers, and I would like to share with you his latest entry. I think it's wonderful. Mellors has been talking a lot about a forum for men only. I believe that when given the chance, men can express really great ideas. Here is what my brother had to say.

The Third Person by David

We all are the third person. We all had parents and we are the third person as the product of two different personalities. It took me almost fifty years and finally some help from the Veterans Administration doctors for my depression to straighten my head out just enough to start learning things over the last six years. I finally started being that third person......I chose who I was going to be.

I took the positive things from my parents and disregarded, finally, the many negative things and I only did this by coming to terms with becoming "Responsible". No one else is making me act the way I do. I have choices to be who I want to be, but I have to stand for something. I'm not anybody unless I have a code to go by. Learn the words yes and no. Do I stand for this?.......yes! Do I tolerate that?......no! Not maybe!!!

We can make up all kinds of excuses why we are like we are.........because of our parents, until we see how our children start hating us for ways we treated them when they were growing up, when we have raised them the same ways our parents treated us. I am responsible for my actions. No one else is causing me to be the way I am.

I just hope that by my example, my children who are seventeen and eighteen, will learn in the "next" seventeen and eighteen years what I have learned............

That is a great blog. Would he mind me sending it to my son and keep a copy for myself ? I can take heed to much of what he said. Your brother has become a very wise man. And yes, men have a lot to contribute. This is an example.

I don't think he would mind at all. Feel free to send the article or the link for the entire blog to anyone you want.

That was great, Susan! So many of us need to learn that we have our own choices to make and we are responsible for those choices. Once we become adults, we have the freedom to make those choices.

We may have had bad experiences in the past, but we can discard them and find better ways of doing things.

So many times I remember saying to myself "When I grow up and have my own kids, I'm not going to do/say that to them!"

I remember as a teen saying to myself that I wasn't going to even have kids! As it turned out I had four and being a "mom" has been the biggest thing in my life. At times, I did catch myself treating one of them in a bad way. I did my best though.

I love your picture Tomi. My Brother's Words

(((((((((Julia))))))))) I'm glad you thought it was important because I did too. I guess it's very obvious that I love my brother a lot. I'll let him know that all of you have appreciated his words.

Thank you so much ((((((((((Fuzzy))))))))))) I try hard to be fair. Surely when everyone reaches 60 (eeek!) we'll all have some wisdom to share. Some of you half my age have plenty of wisdom already, especially you dear niece.
