My oldest son left yesterday for Afghanistan. I can hardly bear it. He will be traveling for three whole days, meeting up with the others who are going. What a way to start the New Year!

Ozzie~ I am so sorry that this is happening . I have not yet realized the actual fear of this. But my niece could be called up at anytime. She missed going over in August because she had to have surgery. My thoughts and prayers are with you , your son and your family right now hon.

We never hear much about what's going on in Afghanistan so I'm not sure if the war is raging like it is in Iraq. Of the two, I would think Afghanistan is safer. You and your son will be in my prayers, Susan!

My son in Tikrit hasn't joined the club of being shot at yet. I recently passed along a 'Nam pilot trick of sitting on an extra flak jacket...he will be on way "home" in July (I think that's after the month of debriefing in Kuwait?) No fear here for him, as we are all strong Christians. He is career military  Praying for his safety...angels are working overtime there

My brother, in the Air Force was supposed to leave Christmas Eve for Iraq. But because of the snow in Denver, his plane got grounded. He left on the 27th of December. My dad, Army, will be back in April for 2 weeks of R&R.

Thank you so very much everyone. Mike said that if he likes the work, they will have jobs for him in Iraq too! I hope he decides this isn't for him. He's a very brave fellow and also very patriotic. I feel he would have been safer to stay in the Navy and go to the Gulf on a carrier like he used to.
Well, mothers don't get a say in these things. I used to think I worried about my kids when they were two and then later when they were teens. I guess moms don't ever finish worrying regardless of the amount of faith they have in their children or their higher power.  This is my oldest and he's 39! I don't know how he got that old. ha!

Thanks again everyone. Yes, Pat that does help. I've been really busy with my work this past year so I know the time will go quickly.
By the way, he called tonight and has finally arrived at the destination. He has been traveling since Jan.1 and they did a lot of backtracking for some crazy reason. He was glad to finally have his feet on the ground again.
