You shouldn't take so much medicine; it's not good for you.
You need to get out of the house.

Don't let it (ptsd and daily migraines and DID and fibromyalgia ) ruin your life

I have a headache too , let' s go to the movies. (Said by friend when I had a migraine)

No one can be out sick for three days. If I were out that many days I'd be in the hospital.
(Coworker)

I never get sick. I don't let myself get sick. -nice. I suppose I'm anemic because I somehow allow it.

You divorced me because the Prozac has made you crazy and the therapist has turned you against me. ---ummm no. You moron. I divorced you because you slept around with strippers and treated me like dirt.

That guy was really weird, ha ha. Said about someone who killed himself at my work before I worked there. Wow, people. I think you are really insensitive and awful to be laughing at him and his pain.

You always have a crisis in your life. I was abused to. Just get over it. I really hope you get your ***** together.

"Well, if anybody has reason to be depressed, I do. I've got all these problems. But I don't let it get me down. I choose to be happy."

Yeah? Choose to educate yourself on what depression really is before you judge me. Right?

I hate when people say crap like that...I think a good response would be 'well, that must be nice' or perhaps 'thank you for sharing' or something to that effect

My comeback for the "you choose to be this way. Why not choose to be happy like me?" Was "Wow! How about next time you talk to me you CHOOSE not to be a condescending a$$hole??hmmm?

My dad told me when I was 17 that my panic attacks were God's way of punishing me for being a disobedient child by letting demons attack me.

You guys have some good ones that I probably can't top. A ward psychiatrist once said to me "I don't know exactly how you got into this situation, but one thing I do know: it was your own fault."

I guess I really made him uncomfortable!

Even though I have been labelled depressed by my doctor, my dad told me "How can you be depressed? You have no reason to be, you are not depressed"

"Pull your socks up."
"Stop telling yourself you can't do things and just tell yourself you can."
"you just enjoy being sad "
" Do you realise how being depressed isn't helping you in life? "

All things said by various doctors to me over the years.
And they say we have one of the best health care systems in the world!

"You got it from those people you hang around with that really are crazy."

Some friends do have mental issues. It's nice to talk to someone who doesn't judge me.

Did someone put something in your drink?!

Are you sure that's what they said? Are you sure they got it right?

You just have to focus on your school and your studies and don't get distracted by your friends or any boyfriends or anything like that...

You just have to keep your mind on the bible and look to god and prayer.

I really think if you had a job it would give you another thing to look forward to and something else to do so you're not just doing nothing.

I know that you just choose not to care and you just choose not to do anything and be lazy. You know that you can do what you are supposed to do but you just choose not to since you want to be lazy.

You just choose to think that way.

But you're smart! How can you be depressed?!

Oh. Yeah. Sure. Thanks for the support.

I am 13 years old, just out of an abusive, incestuous relationship with my father.
- Counsellor: "You have relationship problems with your boyfriend"

I am 18 years old, and just out of hospital for my second attempt on my life - following years of medications that created additional symptoms, and a short foray into alcohol dependency to cope.
- GP: "Sorry Rainbowfairy, there is nothing more we can do for you".

They were both wrong.

That my problems were caused because I put too much faith in "stuff". At the tine, I was eating rotten spaghetti and rice (plain), and reusing tea bags 10 times. She had an eBay business and her house stuffed with stuff she bought and sold there.

She later apologized after becoming severely mentally ill herself, and I love her like anything, but for years to be betrayed with those words by a family member really was devastating.

My sister-in-law recently told me if I would cut out Splenda and drink more water, it would help my severe depression! She is obviously ignorant as to what bipolar depression is all about! Is very frustrating. She swears to God the Splenda has something to do with the cause!

oh wow. i hate to say it but reading some of these gave me a little chuckle. I mean really.
It's not like I just woke up one morning and said to myself well I think I'll be mentally ill for a while. If I could I'd give it all away in a heart beat. I don't want to be like this. Who does?
Oh well, lie us southerners say isn't that special.

I don't drink alcohol because of the Meds I take. I tend to get nasty headaches even if I drink one beer because of the interactions...so I don't drink anymore. My friends, on multiple occasions, have said...

"Can't you just not take your medication just for today so you can have a few drinks"

Btw both my parents died from being alcoholics so me not drinking is a good thing. These aren't teenagers we are in our 40s!

An old T told me to just go outside, that it wasn't a big deal and it was ridiculous to think something would happen. Yeah, yeah ok then. Never saw her again after that.

From two different pdocs:

"Bipolar chose you for a reason; find that reason, and you will be cured."

"You can 'unlearn' your bipolar disorder and PTSD; you just have to try to reteach and retrain yourself to a new way of doing things. It all comes down to a matter of will power."

Needless to say, in each instance, I found a new doc once these lovely theories came out.
