I'm very seriously thinking about sticking life out on my own in NY for the next few months and then moving out to California to live at home with my parents starting right around Christmas.

Why? Well, I've been struggling a lot more in the past few months than I had been before because my mood hasn't been controlled and my meds have been changing etc. It's really hard for me to get through each week, and sometimes, even just each day, and the stress of having to go to work because I pay for almost everything myself doesn't help things, and working part time isn't an option while living on my own because I already live paycheck to paycheck as it is!

So I've been thinking that moving out to CA with my parents might be the best option I've got. It would mean a whole lot less stress since I wouldn't have to pay for anything except things that I wanted which would mean that I could work part time and have it be no issue at all, I would have a constant support system right there instead of 3000 miles away, and it would just give me a break to hopefully get my bearings back and be able to be on my own again soon.

So...my question is this: My family lives in Santa Cruz, and if I were to move out there with them, I would need to find a psychiatrist. If anyone knows of any good ones in that area (Santa Cruz, San Jose etc), please let me know.

Thank you!!

I'm not from CA but a Google search may help you out, try searching for "best psychiatrist in santa cruz ca" minus the quotes.

I live much further south, so I don't know any psychiatrists in that area.

If you have a good relationship with your parents and they are ok with the idea then go for it. NY is soooo expensive!!

However, if family relations are strained I highly advise against it.

Hope all goes well!

Thanks guys.

Even before I was really thinking about it, my mom had said on more than one occasion that I could go and live with them and they would make it work even though space is limited. She mainly said it because I was extremely upset that they were staying in CA and had told me that they were coming back to NY which is the only reason I renewed my lease here.

My relationship with my parents is probably about average for someone my age (23). I don't like them getting too much in my business, but I appreciate their help and support when I need it.

Also, you think NY is expensive? For what I pay in rent I would get something much smaller without utilities included in the Santa Cruz area! My rent is about $1000 for a 1 bedroom that includes all utilities, even heat, cable and internet, except electricity which is never more than about $30/month.

Santa Cruz is a great environment for soothing the mind and soul. You've got the city, the ocean, the redwoods... You can have nightlife or not. Unfortunately, I do not know of any psychiatrists personally, but here's a place to start...

My parents had originally planned to only be out there for a year, but they loved it so much that they decided to stay. I went out over Christmas last year and was there for 9 days. It was nice.
