This is probably a touch random and I'm entirely sure where to put it so Ima just try here.

Anyone else notice that their handwriting changes according to their mood?

I write smaller naturally but the worse my mood the smaller and more precise my writing.

The better my mood the bigger and somewhat messier.

I'm not going to include my rushed writing, that's dodgy no matter my mood lol

Hello, BeteNoire. My penmanship has deteriorated primarily from lack of use over the years but not in the manner or circumstances you describe.

Oh my goodness, yes. I definitely know what you mean! No you are not the only one, haha.
Did you know that even the shade of your eyes changes depending on your mood? It's crazy the way our bodies do things like that.

When the hospital where I was working at was being sued I had to go talk to the hospital's attorneys to discuss what I knew about the case. I was the primary nurse for the patient who died and the attorney was going over my notes and said did you write this?, did you write this? Yes, yes I wrote both. The attorney said but the penmanship is markedly different from this note to another note that I had written. I had to explain that when the patient was stable I had the luxury of writing slower and when the patient was circling the drain I wrote more quickly trying to keep up with the changes. Apparently none of the other nurses writing changes as much as mine.

Another time my own bank refused to cash a check I wrote because my signature didn't match the signature on record. So I had to explain - different mood, different signature.

So yeah I can relate to what you are saying.

At least I'm not alone. Yay!

Now I'm wondering why it happens to some and not others though.

I have this happen to me a lot. I never really noticed it until I recently started keeping a regular journal. When I'm less depressed and more focused my handwriting is smaller and more neat. But when I'm badly depressed or have brain fog, my writing gets bigger and messier, and sometimes I leave out words by mistake and misspell others. I wish I knew more about why this is...

Actually, mine gets worse as a somatic symptom in that if my depression takes a dive, my hands start shaking worse and my handwriting gets all wonky.

I think for me, the reason why mine gets neater is because the more depressed and out of control I am feeling the more I try to control what I can.

It's at these points in time that I usually start to arrange the fridge into colour groups lol

Mine's the opposite - it's really nice and neat when I'm in a good mood, and it's rushed and messy when i'm sad.

Wow, I'm weird......my handwriting/printing is always neat & basically always the same except when I'm taking notes in a class or while watching a class video trying to keep up with the thoughts.....but otherwise, my writing is very precise & neet....always has been from the time I learned to write. I do a lot more printing now than writing other than my signature.

Had to laugh at one store I shop at, when I signed the machine to check out, it rejected my signature because it was too big.....LOL...at that store, I know to scrawl my signature so the stupid machine will accept it.

I'm left handed on top of it & so many left handers write upside down.....I can't write like that either.....has to be in one position....but it can definitely be a challenge because nothing is really set up for the left hander to make writing easy

Yes, I have definitely noticed that. I keep a journal, and when I'm feeling good and confident, it is neat and pretty, but when I'm feeling bad, depressed or anxious, it is much larger and very messy.
