I am constantly picking at my scalp until I get sores, it doesn't itch at all, it's just something I've started doing again. I used to do it a lot a few years ago. Not sure why I do it, I guess it just becomes a bad habit. Does anyone have any tips on how to stop?

My mom said maybe a stress ball or something like that could help.
I may try that, I need to stop and let my head heal so I can dye my hair.

It would probably be best to replace it with something else that is harmless. Try rubbing velvet, or terry cloth or corduroy when the urge hits. Or anything with a texture you can feel with your fingers. Just don't pick at your head.

Ditto. I started in my late thirties. (if I remember right)
