Went to my pdoc yesterday. I'm still having depression, but now it seems some mania is coming in (not sleeping much). Anyway, last week when I saw her she insisted that I call my internal med doc to have her check on my thyroid levels, as low thyroid can also lead to depression, weight gain (struggling with that), etc.

Well, she asked if I made the appt. & I said no. I'm feeling very vulnerable right now & I was afraid the internal med doc would be angry that I haven't lost weight since my last appt. a couple months ago (also have high blood pressure).

My pdoc said she would go with me to the doc's appt.! I have never heard of a mental health provider doing something like that. That she would take her time to accompany me to an appt. that I'm nervous about blew me away. Plus it also made me realize how important she thinks it is to check on my physical health.

She's been treating me for about 6 years & has been incredibly supportive, as well as knowledgeable about bipolar. We started hugging at the end of appts. about a year ago. I'm not much of a hugger, but I like that she cares so much for me & my mental health that her hugs are very comforting.

I did make an appt. with the internal medicine doc. I think I will take her up on her offer to go with me. I'm crying so easily & she would be great support. She also offered to talk to my husband about some of the meds I'm on promote weight gain so he should be more understanding & less condemning.--Suzy

Suzy,
I thought my pdoc rocked, but yours wins by a mile! Not that it is a race or anything. Take full advantage of her offers to help. She must really see you as having great potential if she is willing to go to such lengths to help you.

DePressMe: That is an encouraging thought--that she sees potential in me. I had been stable for about 5 years & this last year have been having lots of trouble, so your comment made me feel good that she perhaps thinks I will be well again & have a good quality of life.--Suzy
