Well, I try to be glad for the things I DO have and not sorry for what I don't have. Like I'm happy I have very low rent and a roof over my head. I could be homeless or unable to pay high rent somewhere so I'm glad for those things. It just helps to appreciate the little things, too.

My faith helps me to feel grateful...but it's still hard.

I think it's easy to feel grateful, and easy to lose track of it. I use gratitude when I find myself in a situation that is stressful or is testing my patience. In that moment I stop and think of someone who is worse off than me. I stop and look at everything I have, and all the things I have that others do not. Often it minimizes how bad we feel and helps us get over what ever the issue is.
It's easiest to start by just listing off stuff: i have a car i'm employed i have a great family my medication is working but it can be a million things: i am not in a war-torn country i have food i can tune into watch tv if i want i have a friend

I agree making a list is a good idea. I also try to think of a few things for which I am grateful as soon as I get out of bed in the morning too.
