That I feed the hungry,
forgive an insult, and love my enemy
these are great virtues.
But what if I should discover
that the poorest of the beggars
and most impudent of offenders
are all within me,
and that I stand in need
of the alms of my own kindness,
that I myself am the enemy
who must be loved
what then?

- C.G. Jung

Being compassionate to myself definitely is challenging. No one treats me worse than I treat myself.

Can relate to that, W2F. I am, indeed, my own worse enemy.

Self-loathing. Very hard to change.

Love it! Thanks for posting!

I say the same thing about my kids: of what good is it that I am kind to a neighbor, a friend, a stranger on the street....it matters that I be kind and compassionate to my own children and kin.

This quote takes a step further...to be compassionate to my own self....I guess that is a stepping stone to being compassionate to my children and kin.

I think this bears repeating! I'm so happy to see someone else making the effort to not only be kind to others, but to be kind to themselves! There is where it needs to begin, WITH OURSELVES!
