So on Friday I had to go to Sick Kids hospital, which is one of the best hospitals in all of Canada. And while doing an examination (this is not for mental health, something else), the doctor asked my mom/me if I had any other health conditions. My mom said no, though I am diagnosed with 2 anxiety disorders. Then my doctor asked if I was on medication. My mom basically said "yes, for anxiety" but after that she said for sure "I didn't list it as a health condition because it's not really a health problem". I was like seriously? Mental health isn't a health problem? How the hell is that not a health problem? It affects how you do things, how you act, and etc.. So I know for sure I can't mention anything about mental health problems I have because she will push it away because "it's not a health problem". Sigh. I hope the majority of the population doesn't think like this. This is my vent.

I share your frustration. My mom told me I was never abused...well, I guess that's years of wasted psychotherapy. My mother-in-law told me that 'mental patients' are just lazy and looking a reason to not work (she, the abusive parent herself). Fortunately her more enlightened daughter does not share her convictions.

All I know is how many people need mental health care. Or maybe we've just become intolerably lazy?
