I'm in crisis a lot. I end up calling a hotline at least once a month. Normally it's a last resort. Either I call, or I hurt myself (as in cutting). It works, but I wonder if I can do it too often.

Well I don't know that there's a quota per say ...
If you need to ring, it's certainly a safer thing to do. I'm sorry that you are struggling so much at the moment. Just wondering if you're seeing a therapist to help you through this time? |

i don't think so.
i don't think it would be professional of a hotline for instance, to just hang up- or tell you that you're calling too much i agree they can try and give you suggestions to rely on them less.. but the bottom line is that, if you need to call, then you call |

I volunteer on a suicide hotline, and I can absolutely assure you that calling them once a month is not too much. We have callers that call daily. The only difference is, with the people who call super often is we try to keep the calls shorter, to around 20 minutes, while with new or less frequent callers we'll typically talk 45 min or longer is the suicide risk is really high.
Bottom line, we'd rather have people call us than not. splitimage |
