Hi AllTheGirls,
It's a little sneaky and naughty but I wouldn't be above trying it. Is it ok But-then again, I'm probably not the best person to be making judgement calls of that kind. I have rebellious spirit in me.

Is it ok? No, I don't think so.

Does it happen? Sure.

Only dishonest cowards rejoin websites and pretend they are someone else. Is it ok

No, it's not okay. Is deception okay? I would never do it, I am way too sensitive to go back to where I'm not wanted . . .

I believe it's not okay, and it's usually against site policy.

Is it ok ~I'm a rebel!

Seriously, I really don't think I'm the only one here who would think that there'd a possibility that I'd sign in under a different name after I'd been banned by a website. Come on! I don't believe the bunch of you, maybe some of you wouldn't, yes-but EVERYONE ELSE but ME? Naaaaa. Maybe they just didn't post. Who knows.

I think there are a few things here.

Being banned is usually for a violation of the guidelines, mistreating members of the community etc.

This is a support community. To flame members, which then hurts some people/friends along the way. I think that's what bothers me. People are banned for a reason.

To come back and "make up" a life is nothing more than deliberate deceptiveness. Being conned and lied to and disrespected in my own life, triggers the heck out of me.

Trust is difficult for me as I suspect it is for most of us here.

So, to trust members and then have them come back disguised as someone else is disrespectful, in my opinion.

Pickle, if you came back and told me that you were married with three children, had a wonderful family and a great relationship with your mother...I just don't see you doing that.

Come back if you're going to. Support people if you can without issues, but don't make up a life that is nothing more than a lie.

Just my feelings. Is it ok

I think if your banned, then your banned. I cant understand that a person would come back under a different guise. Its hurtful and deceptive.

It really bothers me

I'm not saying folks don't do it. I'm saying it's wrong. If someone's banned from a site, it's usually due to their behavior. If a person did something to get themselves banned from a site, I think they ought to "take their licks" and either move on or wait it out if it's a time-limited ban.

But of course people do it. People do dishonest things every day. That doesn't make it honest though. I've got my rebellious nature, too. If all the student parking spaces are full while all the faculty spaces are empty, you can bet I'm going to park in a faculty space, even with my student sticker. But if I get a ticket, I'm not going to pretend to be faculty. I would accept the consequences of my decision.

Petunia, I totally understand that. I'd never do anything THAT extensive. I guess it depends on what I was banned for.
When I thought I was banned from a site- I went back under a different name just to post that I wanted to come back again. That wasn't TOO bad. I waited to get message from someone who could help me. And eventually I did. Turned out I hadn't been banned anyhow. I did something to my security settings and couldn't log in. D'oh!
That's what I'm talking about.

Know what they do at this one website-I thought it was really funny. They have a section that they call jail and the people who misbehave can only post in jail for a certain amount of time- if they behave well- then they can post as usual. I think with each time you go to jail, you get more time added on and then eventually you're banned. I thought it was funny though 'cause the other members could visit them in jail. Is it ok I wish we had something like that.

I'd have to ask, okay with whom? Most site rules cover banning and what happens and how the site owner feels about it. That's all that matters to me.

If someone (like Pickle :-) were to come back under a different name (Gherkin? :-) they wouldn't be a different person and either would get in trouble again I think, or would be "recognized" and individuals/the site would respond to them from that information.

If they didn't get in trouble and didn't get recognized; I wouldn't have any problem with responding to them as whoever they represented themselves to be "this" time as I don't know who anyone online is in reality if I haven't met them face-to-face and over a longish period of time and I only respond to how someone represents themselves "now."

I was watching "Judging Amy" this afternoon and her mother made the statement to her son/Amy's brother, "We're all just a mass of contradictions and death doesn't change that." Whoever one represents themselves as being, I take at face value until I learn otherwise but even then, I believe people have lots of different aspects, roles, "beings" and I do the best I can to relate to the other person as wholly as I can.
