Don't feel bad! What you did going back on that website was understandable and not dishonest! I'm talking about deliberate deception. It happens all the time. It just pisses me off, that's all. Is it ok

I don't think it's an "appropiate" thing to do at all. Too bad there can't be more "resourses" in this site to keep it from happening. Too bad there is no "verifyable" way to figure out who comes back after they are banned.

Is it ok

I can only think of abusive Trolls. Trolling a Mental Health Message Board abusing people is low, cruel and despicable. Anyone who would do that would have no qualms with coming back under a different name and posting lies about a life that they just made up.

What offences are punishable by banning?

At the moment, I wish I could ban the person in my family who left it on the Infomercial channel. I've been barraged with calorie-burning, fat-burning miracle exercise machines that make you lose half your body weight in a week, while organising your life, raising your children, and fixing you that tasty cocktail when you want to indulge. They only cost $999.95 a month for the next 30 years and you get bloody five free miracle exercise machines if you purchase one now, and they throw in an extra useless machine that just sits there and has no discernible use if you pay using your credit card. Are they serious?

The people on these infomercials are so happy, too! Where do they get their inspiration from? Selling an exercise machine on an infomercial would depress me, but these people are so energetic that you wonder if they deliver the thing themselves.

Sorry, I got a bit distracted.

heheheheheheHAHAHAHAHA you're too funny Is it ok

Aahhh, needed a good laugh.

I too wish there was a good way to prevent a person from coming back, but with the use of free internet in every single starbucks, library, college campus, even bookstores now on every corner, it will be forever impossible.

One can only hope that if an individual is banned and returns, that they mend their ways and can become a productive member of the community.

Anyone of us can lie from the start. The anonyminty of the internet makes it possible for people to be who they want. Unfortunately, there's not really anything to be done about it.

Just like we have to co-exist in real life, we have to co-exist on the internet as well.

Thing is, people seem to come back and simply find a different way to say the same harmful rubbish.

I agree. The only way to stop it is if the mod team is alerted.

Its a bummer, but unfortunately people are gonna do what they want.

Always remember the ignore feature as a self protection tool.

No its not right but I do know some people that have done it like I have a friend that got banned from a website and she requested that all her posts on the site be deleted because they were mostly her personal poetry, then after a few days she tried to register and log on using her computer but they used her ip address as a way to shut off access not just closing her account so she used another friends computer and registered. When she saw that her poems and posts had not been delted she let the owner of the site know that she had requested that they be removed as the site did not have copy right to those poems and stuff and if she had to she would seek court action for copywrite infringement because she in writing revolked the sites right to have those posts and peoms for which she held the legal copywrite for (she would write her poems and posts then send them to the library of congress and get the copy write certificate so that every thing she wrote on line was her own property and copywrited material. The sites owner had no choice but to remove her posts and poetry once she sent a copy of the library oof congress certificate to the owner. Then for months afterwards she used various computers to register just to varify that no one on the site was still using and posting her copywrited material.

Its not right that people banned reregister like having this friend of mine did, BUT it does happen and there is no way to prevent it unless the sites shut off ALL IP addresses of EVERY computer in the world but then no one would have access including those that had been banned.

people repeatingly posting rubbish well I don't have to read anything that I don't like.

My therapist told me being on line is like going to a garage or lawn sale one persons garbage is another persons treasures.. I may not like what every person on line writes and might think what they are writing is and posting is garbage because what they are writing about doesnt fit me or makes me mad but like going to the yard and garage sale its not up to me to judge someone elses items for display or sale. I can take it, use it or pass on by it but its not up to me to say one persons treasures is garbage just because I have no use for it in my life.

Could a person do this from...let's just say...the library?

Let's say if they only had limited computer access and didn't own one, (like you) could they do this dishonest act from a library computer?

I couldn't do it Myself. It wouldn't feel right, but I bet that doesn't bother some.

I just showed your post to one of the librarians monitoring the computers.. here yes it is possible because here they have 15 computers on the first floor for the children and teens and overflow for adults, they have 35 computers on the second floor for adults and teens, and on the third floor also for adults and teens they have 10. each computer contains its own computer IP computer chip for identification of the computer, then she said that all the computers are internet accessable so they also have the local and state IP address that is added to the computers individual IP address numbered chip. so you end up having 60 computers all with a different IP address that contains the individual computer IP plus the internet access local and state IP numbers added. She said it looks something like this

1234-1234-1234-12234
1233-1234-1234-1234
1232-1234-1234-1234

and so on at public librarys and schools that have more than one computer with internet access on the same network.(computer programs)

Ahhhh. Right. I see. So it would be easy for a dishonest, banned member to, in their limited time on a public computer, sit back and deceive people.

I guess that's what we were all talking about in the beginning of this thread. How some people can have a clear conscious when deceiving others. Me, myself--well, I just don't get it. I think it's cruel. Is it ok

yea I know sometimes being on line sucks and sometimes it does gets to me having to be so careful on line of not posting my real name, city town, address phone number stuff like that, and worrying about on line preditors who claim to be this and that when they aren't and just everything. (can tell I have anxiety problems huh?)

but then my therapist tells me that when I start focusing more on who is decieving who and worrying about on line preditors and so on beyond why she and I thought my being in an on line group would be a good idea for me - so that I can talk with people like me and not feel so alone and such things.. then its time for me not to be in that on line group.

She said I can't control other people online and what they post and what and how they use the internet for but I can decide for myself what I want to read and who I want to interact with and stuff like that. she said that if on line is a trigger then don't go on line

then she told me this joke about a person that told her that every time she turned her foot a certain way it hurt. The person didn't HAVE to turn her foot that way she just did even though she knew it was going to cause herself pain and then she complained about having that pain. No one was making her turn her foot that way and her foot did not naturally turn that way when walking. So the doctor told her sorry can't help you its your foot you control your foot and if that causes you pain then don't do that and the problem was solved for herself.

she says I control what I read and stuff on line and if something upsets me then its time t stay away from that post or thread or person.

No sense in my worrying about how to stop others that shouldnt be registering or are posting things that upset me for it does not good but cause me more upset. But my controling what I read and who I enteract with is called self nurturing and paying attention to what I need to do to keep me safe on line.

People reregistering happens and I don't like it when it does but I can't do anything about that except stay away from the posts and threads and people that I don't want in my life.

so I don't bother worrying about who may be this old member or that member and hey that person posted just like this old member..(funny story this happened a couple weeks ago on another website I recognized a persons post but the name was different. I showed it to my therapist and it turned out that both the old member and that new member were members of a real time group and under the same therapist working on the same therapy work because the agency only had one therapist that worked with that type of mental disorder. here I was ready to go off at someone because I thought she was someone I didn't like and I knew. Good thing I didnt because I would have been slinging accusations and blame and such at the wrong person.)

so now instead of worrying about what and how others behave on line I do and take care of me.

Oh thank you so much for showing my post Crystal. You've just been so helpful. I hope you didn't print it though. Not that it's against the law. It's just a matter of respect and courtesy to ask.

Oh, and I know you're kinda "new" here (even though you've been lurking for a long time) so I just thought I would help you out and offer up a friendly reminder from Doc John. (It's just that we had a disrespectful member that used to do that and it made us all feel vulnerable, so Doc John added this into his guidelines.)

Funny, I do believe she used library computers too, now that I think of it.

You said,

Yes, good thing. I can see where that might have been upsetting.

Oh and thank you so much for the tips on copyrights. I did some searching and you are right. Taking people's words without their permission is a problem.

Why, I even found a very similar post written from a previous member! Strange how that works sometimes. Is it ok

I guess I'll have to pay more attention from now on. Is it ok

HOW TRUE

Look at what happened to me the other night I was on another website and while they did not know who I was they were coming to psych central with out logging in. I know at least two out of the five were definiately NOT members here for they said so during the conversation, but anyway they came here and copied and pasted my posts and others from the community boards on that other website.

A friend of mine and I one night found a poem that she had wrote one night in a real time support group and had posted it in her blog and now it is on at least 8 different websites and not one of those people credited her, in fact they were claiming she wrote them. When she wrote to the webmasters (owners of those sites they told her too bad its on line in a public area that means its open to all the world to use as they see fit. The only way they would remove those posts with her poem was if she sent the webmaster copies of the library of congress paper saying they were legally copywrited by the library of congress. Shh now pay the library of congress $35.00 a poem for that official seal (as do I)

Sorry didn't mean to offend or break any rules. See Im used to using library and college computers for my internet access. Its really cool that people like me who can't afford to get computers of their own being able to just walk in to any public access building - schools, librarys, and such and be able to use them for free.

the downfall is that the computers are for public use located in public which means that anyone and everyone can see what every one and anyone is doing on line. and believe me some people who use librarys are not happy about this because there are sites on line that are not appropiate for children and some lower teens but in the adult areas there are no blocks for porn and violent games and websites. so when parents with younger kids or teens are just walking around they get an eyeful and an educatiojn that is not meant for them.

So librarians sort of patrol up and down watching who is doing what where and allerting those frequenting such sites that require some confidentiality... and you know..

so I have a habit of not worrying about who sees what other than my keeping a book marker taped over the area where peoples names appear on on line support groups.

Unfortunately being a public library thats the only thing I can do to prevent librarians form looking at the computer screens and checking to see what sites are being visited and such.

So even though the libraarians and other people using this library can see what I am posting where and such I do what can to minimize exposure by blocking names and other personal information so that if I do have a question or need help running and using the computers confidentiality is kept as much as I can.

No one sees any of the members names because I have three bookmarkers taped to the screen. Most of the time I don't even know who I am responding to. because I have to lift up the marker every time I want to see someones name along the left side of the screen here.

and hey thanks for finding that post for me by Myself. she and I and a few other family members have been trying to find and read her posts, with her permission to be here of course.

Oh you are very welcome. Yes, I saw Myself's blog that said her family was here.

If you'd like any particular post of hers, I can help you.

Before she decided to "stop posting" she mentioned that she printed out a lot of our helpful posts and kept them in her own personal folder so she could easily pull them out and share it with her therapist, or reflect on our insightful words.

I thought WOW what a great idea it is to take people's posts and print them out, so I did that with all of hers! Why, there's enough there to write a book! Is it ok

Then Doc changed the Guidelines...and bummer, it was too late, I had already done it.Is it ok

I would be happy to help you find anything you need. Just give me a word that might be contained in a post, like for instance subpoena. Oh wait. I think Myself spelled that one as supenia.

Anyway, if you do a search (at the bottom of the forum you are interested in) type in the word and it will pop up like this.

Is it ok

That's just an example of course. I have many more like this and it would be my pleasure to assist you. Is it ok

I hope this helps you and your family out and saves you lots of time.
