So I know this might be nitpicking but her goes. I got in a discussion about cartoon characters (yes you heard right) - Tom and Jerry. Now I grew up in the sixties and should know Tom And Jerry. I claimed they were mice - the person I was talking to said they were a cat and mouse - which they are after we googled them. I know this shouldn't be a big deal but I've always had such a good trivia memory and this seemed to verify that I'm on my way out (mentally). I'm pretty embarrassed and feel pretty inadequate. I don't want to be a mind zombie.

Everyone's brain cells decline as they get older. You are not alone that's for sure.

If your mind goes get after it smartish, if it gets a head start of more than a day you've lost it for good.

I don't think that's anything to be concerned about. It's normal to forget trivial things in the course of life. You might tell your doc about it if you really feel it is a problem.

It happens to everybody; every memory has a lifecycle, and the accuracy diminishes over time. That's part of why they try to get crime investigations going in the first 48 hours -- when eyewitness accounts are most reliable.
Plus when we were kids there was so much less to remember.. just a few years of life really. Now the database is overloaded, and can barely find a nook or cranny in which to store new stuff. These days I consider my mind more of a well-intentioned interpreter than a credible witness. ![]()

Like a veil thrown over the skin to secure its modesty, the screen partially removes from the mind the inner states of the body, those that constitute the flow of life as it wanders in the journey of each day.” — Antonio R. Damasio, “The Feeling of What Happens: Body and Emotion in the Making of Consciousness” (p.28) |

Its amazing what things our brains retain and what they forget. Sometimes I even trip over what I did yesterday. Appointments are my current bug bear. I forget many appointments, not so long ago I missed a doctors appointment by 3 days. Oops.
My sister has a great mind. She will remember many things when I draw a complete blank. Mind you there are things I remember that she doesn't. Sometimes the weirdest facts can be recalled but what was my fathers birth date? After googling Tom and Jerry I bet you wont forget it now. ![]() |
