I have tried so hard to be pleasing and take good care of people who don't respond much in kind. It has made me feel so sick. Need to stop! Trying to do just that but still suffer so much guilt at any lack. I think I am actually nice but I have overwhelmed myself with too much trying.

I'm sorry you are feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes we have to take a step back and look after ourselves. Sounds like you might need to take some time for yourself.

I have no doubt you are a good person. I suspect you give too much, assume there is good in everyone.
There is not.
Love yourself.

Too much giving can be overwhelming, because there are always those who will just take and take and take. Remember the saying-- you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. And if a person doesn't respond in kind to your caring, ask yourself if it's because they are incapable of it or because they're taking you for granted. Don't let anyone take you for granted, ever.

Same boat. It is utterly exhausting. As people pleasers, we need to stop forgetting that we are people too. We have to put some of that effort we keep distributing toward caring for others into caring for ourselves... I know, easier said than done.

In my DBT. Group our leader constantly reminded us about the oxygen masks on the airplanes....they tell us to put it on ourselves FIRST or we will be incapable of helping anyone else. That applies to our everyday lives also....there is NOTHING SELFISH about taking care of our own needs first before we give ourselves to others. It's sometimes a challenge to organize out time for both but it's necessary....while there are certain times when we do have to only give in some circumstances like when my mom was dying of cancer but that time is NOT forever.

Im also sorry for what you are going through.

I learned something years ago and found that it was true.

Before I can effectively take care or help someone else. I have to take care of myself first.
