Been to rehab a number of times, both residential and outpatient. I actually prefer outpatient.

Residential was in a private psych hospital, and was pretty good. Shared rooms, and institutional food, but really lovely grounds, & I was there during the summer so it was nice to be able to sit outside. Started each day with a mandatory walk around the grounds, I wasn't wild about that. We had groups every day, but there was a fair bit of downtime. It was a strictly 12 -step based program, so we talked about the steps a lot and everyone had to attend AA or N/A every day.

Outpatient was 5 1/2 days a week for 10 weeks. It was run by a public hospital and wasn't 12-step based. Instead focused much more on a bio/psych/social model. All groups when we were there, some were discussion, some were educational where we'd see videos about addiction. Ramdon blood and urine screens.

I actually preffered the outpatient, because you got to learn how to live sober with the support of the program, but still had to manage with the rest of your life when you weren't in group. Resedential makes it really easy to stop as you have no access.

I hope you have a good experience, and that it helps you.

I actually don't know if I'm going to accept the offer, but my psychiatrist recommended it for me.

It's basically a psychological rehab, so I will be living with people with MI like severe anxiety, severe depression, schizophrenia, bipolar and other conditions.

It's about setting life goals, gaining independence, and also recovery.

At the moment my main doubt is whether I am crazy enough to be there.

If I believed I would benefit from such a program, I'd go regardless of my crazy scale, help and support is the objective.

Sounds like something we could all gain some good from. Who really knows your needs in that area better than your pdoc? Think you could gain some valuable information & skills from the experience.

Know going to places like that isn't always comfortable surroundings....I ended up in an ED treatment center for 6 weeks many years ago. It helps if you are mentally at a good place & wanting the help they are able to provide or at least very open to it.....otherwise, it can very well be a waste unless the program is very inspirational & is able to gain your attention if you aren't feeling that into it.

I applied for public housing today . . . they told me there is a long queue and they gave me some forms to hand in.

Also on the rehab front I found out that I will have to be interviewed if I want to be accepted, but I think that's only for one of the programs?

Unfortunately there is a waiting list . . . so i am kinda twiddling my thumbs.

I need help pretty bad though, so I guess I will ask my psychiatrist what else he can put me in for the meantime.

Illegal, what about going to some AA meetings. You don't have to be an alcoholic to attend and they have a good program for all around mental health. Some people just go for that and to listen and don't have a problem.

Just a thought and also a way to meet other people who struggle too. There are often very nice people in that program and it is free too.

Best of luck, and hang in there. Patience is required, which is not usually one's strong suit!

It's pretty normal for there to be an interview and waiting list process when going to a treatment facility. Had to do that to get in to the place I've been at for what feels like forever now.

It will be well worth it IT! I think it's common to feel like you have to be "crazy" to get in to these places. It's not true. You'll find that the vast majority of the people who attend these places are just like you. People having a rough time that need the extra support and education. It will be well worth it.

Let us know what's going on and best of luck! I know these processes all too well.

This is great news IT. This is a very brave thing to do but think you realize something has to change since you're stuck. I hope this will bring you on a better path and give you the coping skills you need. Best of luck.

It's taken longer than I thought to begin, but mostly because of my procrastination. I started on Tuesday and it went well. Basically he's at least going to help me sort out allt he paperwork I have to do in my life, i will have access to a financial counsellor to try and sort out my backlog of taxes that i haven't handed in, also help me to get into some local groups, for example i want to do yoga for some reason. Stuff like that and i don't know what else.
