Remembering things

If you do something so regularly that all the times you've done it blend into each other, how do you remember if you accidentally miss out doing it one time?

The reason I ask is that my sister and I take it in turns to feed our hamster, and we've done it so many times that (for me, at least) I can't always tell if I'm remembering feeding him yesterday, last week, last month... To help, I've marked the days I fed him on a calendar, but my sister doesn't check it. There have been times when we've disagreed on who fed him last, and my sister rarely believes me if I say it was her, since it's well known in my family that my memory is terrible. No matter how sure I am, it makes no difference, because I just can't prove it and I don't trust my memory enough.

Is there any way I can be absolutely sure who fed him last, or is the calendar the best I can do?

( I realise this is nothing compared to what some people here go through, but it's very frustrating not being believed and knowing that maybe my sister's right not to believe me. And it makes me worry what else I might have forgotten, too. )

I think you are correct in the chart to track when last feed...however if sister is on board...there is always the trick if it has been touched...always place the food in a certain direction in a certain place...It is unlikely she will put it back exactly as you have been placing it...

use the calendar or chart
and check it off when it's done,
maybe with intials.

How about a sign off sheet at the hamster's cage? When you or sis feeds him, you sign off on the day. That way both when hammy was last fed is there in addition to who fed him.

Just keep a constant supply of food in a bowl in his home. That's what I used to do. Don't worry too much if you forget to feed him once. Hamsters are hoarders. They always take a lot of food and hide it their "nest". When you clean his cage, you can see where all the hidden food is.

If you are really worried, just feed him. Hamsters don't usually overeat. They'll just save the extra for later.

Thanks for replying, Rose3. There's not really enough space on the calendar to use initials, but I use different coloured pens instead. It worked when my sister still used it, but now the days when she's fed him are left blank, which can get confusing. Guess I could fill them in for her.

Thanks for replying, Greenleaves. That's true about the food, I think he stores more than he eats! The water needs to be replaced each day, though.
