A fire engine and an ambulance just drove down my street in response to an incredibly LOUD thunderclap (and I mean jump to the ceiling loud) and a fierce streak of lightning. Looks like the house three houses down got struck. Lightning

Hubby said he saw the stretcher go in but it came out empty and as far as he can tell, the house did not catch on fire.

Thanks everyone. The storm has passed and it's just rain now. I think that clap of thunder and crack of lightning was the loudest we've ever heard. Lightning

No word on what happened at neighbors house yet. Lightning

Tampa Bay is known as the lightning capital of the nation.

In June, 1993, more than 21,000 cloud-to-ground lightning flashes occurred within a 50-mile radius of Tampa Bay. In June 1994, the number of flashes rose to an incredible 50,000.

Florida averages 10 deaths and 30 injuries a year from lightning. Since 1959, Florida has had more than 350 lightning-related deaths and more than 1,000 injuries.

The temperature of a single bolt can reach 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, about five times as hot as the sun's surface; lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from the storm.

Lightning bolts strike behind some of St. Petersburg's tallest buildings as seen from The Pier during a fast moving storm that came through the area July 5, 1995.

We had a storm last week where 3 houses were hit by lightening within 2 miles of our house. The instant flash-boom makes your skin crawl.

The closest strike, less that 1/4 mile from here, blew a big hole in the roof. The house didn't catch fire but the down pour from the storm came right through the roof and ruined the whole inside.

The second strike blew half the roof off the house about a mile away. The third caught the roof on fire. Not much left once the fire dept. arrived.

Stay safe favorite purple petaled flower.

We had the loudest dramatic lightning storm here in WV a couple of weeks ago...I don't recall ever experiences such a dramatic lightning/thunder storm here in WV before. It was a localized storm during a very long drought/heat wave so others may have not experienced it.

Yes indeed!

Terrible storms here Sunday, hours on end. Even entered my dreaming! grrrr (which I was trying to do to hide from them) Lightning

I've been in 2 houses hit by lightening. NOT fun.
My brother's house was knocked 6" off foundation by a lightening strike to the jacaranda tree who's roots ran under the house. NOT good.

And yet? I drive a soft top Lightning

We had a guy down here killed by a lightening strike recently, and there wasn't a cloud or storm anywhere around. He was a missionary for some belief. Gotta wonder about that one. Lightning

Does not sound fun! I live in Harford County, Maryland, and we had a tornado yesterday evening and I sent my husband out during the warning to pick up my new meds. Fortunately it was a 5+ miles northeast of us.

Hey Pet~I'm in the Clearwater/St Pete area. The last couple of days have been very electrifying, huh?!!

Was watching BayNews9 this today after work and they track lightning strikes per 15 minutes. When I was watching the number of strikes was over 17,000. Lightning

We got hammered again today. You're probably getting it now.

You know, you can usually set your clock to the storms. But these are some pretty severe ones. The lightning was lighting up the kitchen. Lightning

My hubby was on his way home and could see the lightning over our neighborhood and just as I asked "where are you now?"

CRACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. Yikes. I could not comfort the dog. She was shaking like a leaf. I had to take her into the laundry room and sit with her on the floor. Lightning

It's still rumbling out there but the lightning has moved away a bit.
