I'm always that person who doesn't think the same way others do. I do stuff my way, not that I'm egoistic, I do stuff thinking for others, even more than for myself. I value democracy. And I'm not really afraid to tell or do things what I think and feel, but I always analyse the situations first before doing drastic things because I also don't want it to be too controversial.
I don't do things I feel isn't right to do, when people cheat for their tests I don't because I know it's bad, I know if i do it I'd feel guilty. That's just an example for some little things I do but some people think of it somewhat annoying. Who cares If I don't cheat, I'll be the one getting the grades, I'll be the one taking responsibility for it. That's what I always thought. Why do people hate it when we try to do something right, even when we don't involve them in our actions. It's just so weird. I'm in high school btw and people say I'm a lot more mature than my age.. Does that effect these situations to happen? |

Hi there
I think it's great that you think differently. You seem to have a strong moral code and integrity, that you have developed yourself rather than swallowing what society/media etc has fed you. Embrace it, you are one of a kind. People don't like it because it shows their short comings or flaws. It reflects their image back to them in a negative light. That's their problem. Keep being you!

What you describe to me is just fine; in fact, I find it great the way you seem to think. Too many people behave the way they think others think they ought to. However you stick to your set of values - one which seems to be honourable. Give yourself permission to think and be your own person.

I experienced this in school as well... honestly, I think it has a lot more to do with the insecurities of the ppl who are unkind to you than it does with the way you think, speak or act. In general and esp. in HS, most ppl are very concerned with "fitting in". They tend to be very self conscious of being unpopular and being made fun of, so much that they will avoid expressing any part of themselves that may not "fit the perceived "status quo". Unfortunately, some are so desperate to be liked that they will be cruel to those who remain true to themselves. It is highly irrational but somehow they think that picking on others raises their own status in the group. Sadder even is that a lot of ppl do not "grow out" of being bullies, and continue this behaviour into adulthood; and are often even reward for it.

Hi, I'm like this and was like this in HS aswell, I think thinking differently is a good thing to have, it shows you are your own person and not a cookie cutter image or thought process of everyone else. So yes it is okay to think differently and do what you think and believe is right rather than what everyone else is doing.
